Might seem entirely illogical, but I just have a gut feeling that if this foursome could be kept together, they would develop a good understanding. Okay, it was a horror show at times, but they did at least look as though they cared, and when we weren't under threat, they held the line well on several occasions to play Blackpool offside. Good decision to relieve Alfie of the burden of captain. I could imagine him and Long developing an understanding. Wabara makes mistakes, but does at least carry an attacking threat. Aidy White looks a proper footballer - the best we've had in that position for some time, in my view. I don't know what the chances are of keeping Long and White for a bit longer, but I'd love to have them for the rest of the season. They're not there yet, but I think this back four has some potential.
Mawson has had a rough time of it recently but though he did ok today. Dominant in the air but his distribution is poor at times. Heart is in the right place though and that's a big plus point
I don't think we've got a bad defender in any of Bree, Wabara, Mawson, Long, Nyatanga, Roberts, Smith & White. I think the problem is Johnson has never let a defence get used to playing with each other. He's constantly changed personnel & formation& it's meant a lot of errors have happened. I think any of the right backs with any 2 of the centre backs & one of the left backs would do well if they had run of games together.
Dire today??Harsh in my opinion. Difficult to fault them for the first goal - my only concern were the clearances that kept dropping to the Blackpool players. Thought Davies could have helped out more one incident in first half where Mawson was screaming for him to collect it
