Not the penalties - to be honest they were soft but they were touch and go. I think Steele was very unlucky on the first one - he got to the ball first and Henderson made a meal of it. The second was a very clumsy challenge. However, Davis headbutted Macken in front of the ref. As an isolated incident this is just appalling decision making to ignore the fact that he deliberately tried to injure Macken. In light of what happened this time last year..words fail me. He got a lot of the big decisions wrong - Shotton should also have been sent off late on. Fantastic display however, we really should have won by a few clear goals. Sheff U have big problems and were the worst team I have seen in the Championship this season so far defensively.
Disagree about Shotton they got their studs caught up and as they came free, all his body weight was on that foot so it couldn't do anything but continue forwards into the player's back. Unfortunate but completely accidental.
Agreed, I don't believe there was any malice in the second incident, merely unfortunate, as you mentioned, that Shotton's boot was caught with their player's boot. After watching the game again on Sky+ after getting back from the match I think the referee did indeed get plenty wrong, including the penalties. There were plenty of dives, elbows and general cheating from the Pigs. Disappointed not to come away with three points really, the Pigs had two shots on goal the whole match and that was the pens, we were dominant.
Shocking referee for both teams. Can't grumble with the penalties. Having seen them back both Kozluk and Hammill did sloppy challengers. Plus booking Kyle Walker after he had been stamped in his back was bad.
He wasn't stamped on and he was booked for dissent. He threw himself to the ground after the initial contact and in doing so (thats diving by the way and a yellow card) he lifted his feet up and shotton caught his foot on the raised leg of walker which caused him to stand on his back with one foot. No intent at all and an accident caused by Walkers dive. Then he reacted really badly lifting his shirt off and screaming at the ref which was a clear booking for dissent
I thought the ref was as good as we've had, gave us plenty of free kicks, got the penaltys right, didnt spoil the game with trivial red cards and massive amounts of yellows! what do we actually want from a ref, he cant play up front for us!
I want a referee that gives the same things for both sides, uses his cards to cut out unacceptable and repeated fouls and keeps some sense of control over the game. One day we'll get one
they dont really exist though, id take last nites ref over the donny one, forest one, bristol one every day of the week
It was a fould by Steele - Battenburg I watched the game on tv in Coventry and Clattenburg said the first pen was given for a foul by Luke Steele. He got one hand, if not both to the ball, so it wasnt a foul. Kozluk, however, was just jumping about, but it wasnt given for his challenge.
So headbutting a player infront of the ref and him ignore it is better than what we have had? Shows how bad the others have been. To be honest, I think the refs are getting progressively worse.
The sky commentary team were crap weren't they. Even when the video showed steele touch the ball and it changed direction they still maintained he hadnt touched it. Oh and they kept getting barnsley players names wrong as well even when the players were facing away from them with their names showing to the camera
And missing a kick on anderson while he was on the ground despite looking straight at it and the linesman being stood next to the players
was no where near as bad as the ref at forest or donny and arguably bristol, you're always gonna get decisions go against you its part of the game! he gave us a lot of freekicks that we wouldnt usually get, i thought the second was a pen (the ball should have been cleared into touch before he got anywhere near the box), first one was harsh but some give it some dont, if he didnt see the headbutt he cant give it? anyway we should have been good enough to put that game to bed without relying on referees to be good, theres **** refs all over these days so why do we expect to get anything other?
Watched it last night Though both penalty decisions were wrong. First one Steel got the ball and then the player came in and just fell over him, 2nd one was a dive.
