Isn't Joe Joyce in charge of their academy?

It did look bad but one of those where he was late and caught the lads foot after he kicked it.

I thought Rose's two footer in the first half was worse...

To be honest, you've got to blame Newcastle for it getting tasty - all you could hear first half was their gaffer telling the lads to go through 'em, especially Rose. And their number 8 is a reight t w a t.

    Very enjoyable game today.

Both sides looked like proper "grown up" football teams. Standard was higher than I expected.

Newcastle lined up 4-4-2 and were outplayed by Barnsley in the first half with their 4-1-4-1 formation.

Digby caught the eye with a very composed performance in the holding midfield role and Danny Rose played well upfront.

Our no 7 (Abbott?) was also doing well and Stones marshalled the defence with authority. Our no.10 (Jordan Clark?) looks a class player in the making, very comfortable on the ball, can drift past players and see a pass.

Second half Newcastle came out and closed us down alot more and put the lads under pressure. Our passing suffered but we made some good counter attacks.

Sending off was justified, the lad flew in with studs raised, but the Newcastle defender should have followed for raising his arms in retaliation.

It carried on a bit spicy from then and the visitors were unlucky not to snatch a winner after a couple more good chances.

However 1-1 was a fair score after each team had been clearly dominant in a half each.

The lads who have been in and around the first team looked our best players and our goalie played well especially second half.

I might be tempted to see a few more games as it was highly enjoyable and some of the football played was top class. Only grumble was that we had to get a halftime cuppa from Metrodome as no tea hut open.
