I know it has been gone over before but we must start to give the academy players a go otherwise what's the point in having the set up. See Dyer was on the bench but instead we stick a player brought in as lwb stuck up front. At 21 Louie Barry was the top scorer in the league with 15 before going back to Villa and loaned out again. Dyer at 20 and others in the academy set up must surely get a chance at some point to prove if they are good enough to make it in the first team, if they are not tried then you will never know.
I think next season could be a season for some to shine. We have jalo, dyer young Wilkinson, the lad on loan at oldham Aiden Marsh depending on how he does in scotland. Should all be pushing for gametime.
My mate said same about Dyer yesterday. He might be young and inexperienced, but he’s a striker, not a wing back playing as a striker. Can’t fault Farrugias effort when he came on, but it was a really strange choice by Clarke.
What annoyed me yesterday was what seemed to be the use of farrugia as some sort of in-house political point scoring, rather than what was best for the team. For me that was inexcusable. now is the time to use these younger players and yesterday was the ideal opportunity-yet DC preferred to use mind games - that’s not the sort of manager I want to see . Take VI - he got rid of mattyjames and used romal Palmer
Marsh is already struggling for game time at a poor standard club. Vimal can't get a start in non league.
Come off the bench last few games in a team 4th in the division. Only 19 still so not writing him off.
Might aswell use these last 16 games to blood a handfull of them, forget playoffs that ship has sailed, get these lads some proper game time at a good level.
If the academy were producing players anywhere near good enough to step up to the first team then you would have a valid point, but unfortunately it’s just not producing quality on a regular enough basis. I can see it shutting down in the not too distant future, to save money, especially when season ticket sales dwindle, which is likely.
I would shut it down - it doesn’t produce or provide and hasn’t for many years really - it’s probably only John Stones coming through that’s made it be kept going for this long tbh. I think once our financial position and deficit hits home that we will need to make a drastic cut and get rid.
Dyer might get a chance, but was it Man U U21 he got a game earlier this season? Didn't look ready. Not writing him off by any means and why not give him a run of bench appearances? We afforded that luxury to Cosgrove, so ..
Am I misremembering but weren’t we told there was a golden generation coming through and that we should be excited about this? I hope I have got that wrong because, at this point, that looks very wide of the mark. I do think if Yoganathan can keep his development going like he has, he could be a good player for us. Clearly, Wilkinson has a lot of potential too.
