The team was again packed with year 1 students and they did very well to hold a powerful United.

Barnsley scored first and were ahead 1-0 at half-time. The goal was a bit of a disaster for the United defence. A near post corner was headed goalwards by a defender but the United keeper should still have done better than weakly push the ball into the corner.

United pushed the young Reds back for the last 15 minutes of the first half and most of the second half and were rewarded with an equaliser when the ball was struck from the right corner of the box into the opposite corner.

The young reds were back in front when Federenko broke past a line of defenders with arms in the air appealing for offside. He took it into the area and when everyone was expecting a shot, he crossed and Wyatt scored easily from 10 yards.

The equaliser came when the United 11 took a good touch at the edge of the box and beat Leatheren in his bottom right corner with his second touch.

Although Leatheren could not be faulted for either goal, I am not looking forward to the prospect of him deputising for Mannone next week. Best player in a Red shirt Meynell or Butterfield.
