Mother-in-laws?..... Reaches for the brandy.......... takes a swift swig..... nods head in approval: 'Fair play mi owld China - i'll go with that one as well'. Speaking of which; she's due up tomorrow so look out for dark clouds and bolts of lightning over a house in Bromley for a 24-hour phase. (pint) (pint) (pint) (pint) (pint)
What annoys me is... ...folk who should have accents but don't. Are they ashamed of where they came from? Were they so insular as children that they didn't talk to other folk (and therefore pick up the accent)? What's it all about? So fair play to anyone who speaks with an accent whether it be Brummie, Geordie, Yorkshire, Cockney, Scottish, American... whatever. Of course the flipside of this is when someone puts on an accent in a false attempt to be down with the locals or to sell summat.
How about "Uptalking"? Making every sentence sound like a question drives me bananas. Where has it come from?
