I'm running the New York Marathon in November, and I need to arrange some accomodation. Can anyone recommend anywhere? Trying to do it as cheap as I can, so it doesn't have to be fancy, but would prefer it not to be a bench in Central Park!
I would walk it backwards.... Hence no need for accomodation.
Don't do what that other bloke did and do it in a 1900 circa diving suit. You may die.

Many thanks for the suggestions. Does the bench come with newspapers supplied, or do I have to buy my own?ff Thanks again.
RE: Many thanks for the suggestions. There are free newspapers you can pick up on most street corners.
There ain't no cheap accommodation in Manhattan - FACT! But you might get lucky if you look far & wide and book early enough. As someone said, tripadvisor is a good starting place. The "Penn" has it's own website - www.hotelpenn.com , and I would also check out all the Days Inns in NY, including Brooklyn & other parts of NY - as long as they are near a Subway station you won't have a problem.
RE: There ain't no cheap accommodation in Manhattan - FACT! I stayed at the hotel penn after recommendations on here. It was a reasonable price, the room was ok, nothing special but a decent size and clean. But the position is fantastic. Straight across road from madison square gardens, which has decent subway links. 2 minutes walk to empire state, 5 minutes to times square. I would recommend if you are not looking to spend too much. I think it was eaststander who said if you book through their website you will almost definately get a refurbished room. We did.
RE: There ain't no cheap accommodation in Manhattan - FACT! Yes that was me - and the prices direct through their website are comparable with the numerous generic booking sites I only went for the Grand Union last time because I wanted to be based in a different area of the city. Next time I'm looking for a hotel in Greenwich Village.
Thanks for the help. I'll give them all a try. I need to book it now as there will be a big demand over the race weekend.
