With Howard exiled to the left wing & therefore pretty much ineffective, I'd have to agree with them.
RE: With Howard exiled to the left wing I think, at best, he needs a rest (looked knackered after half an hour yesterday). At worst, we need to get rid. Alot on here have pointed out that Colgan is living on past glories. Devaney is at least as guilty, if not more.
Like I said last night Other sides have also identified he's our only real attacking outlet so they stick 2 defenders on him every time. If just about every time your team had the ball, they gave it to you to try & set up an attack, you'd be knackered pretty quick too. I'm not saying that if he's tired & in need of a rest that he shouldn't be given one, but who else do we have that can play there? Kyel Reid is left sided & Hayes has been sent out on loan & I don't expect him to be wearing a red shirt again whilst our management remains the same.
RE: With Howard exiled to the left wing He is our biggest threat which is why most teams, including Sunderland yesterday, double up on him. Funny how there are groups of fans in the ground who pick out their player to target and they just criticise them, apart from when they do something good and then you don't hear a word. There are 2 groups near me, 1 targets Colgan and another targets Devaney (perhaps some people join both groups!) - last week it was constant barrage against Devaney....he puts in a cracking ball for the goal and what do you hear? "Well done Ferenczi" I recall one occasion in a game when Dev had tracked back to his own area and put in a great block tackle, ball gets cleared and these morons are having a go at Dev because he isn't there to pick up the pass! Same with Colgan - last week all our players on the edge of our area jogging out....some fans see fit to have a go at Colgan for not hurrying up to clear the ball up field (when we didn't have any players upfield!)
RE: With Howard exiled to the left wing Duly noted. To give him credit, Devaney put 2 cracking balls in for goals against Hull and Norwich, 2 crosses in 2 games that resulted in goals, but too often he feels the need to beat a man twice, and 9 times out of 10 this results in him losing the ball.
Re: According to NOTW we're doomed... Devaney is the highest placed BFC player in the actim index by quite a margin so he cant be doing that badly this season. He is one of our more talented players but like has been said before opposing teams are now aware of this and are marking him tightly. Nobody can knock his workrate either. He is up and down the right touchline constantly, as the barnsley players are constantly using the right flank due to our lack of width on the left. Howard has got to be moved back in the middle and get Kyel Reid on the left. Given a run at a defender he has got the pace to beat them and Howard can get back to his best performances in the middle.
Re: According to NOTW we're doomed... Up and down the right touchline, are you sure? Togwell spent more time on the right wing yesterday.
Re: According to NOTW we're doomed... He is one of the fittest in the squad and is often out of breath. How does that happen if he doesnt get through plenty of running? He is expected to attack the full back more times in a game than any other player is expected to do anything attacking wise. The reason he sometimes gets caught upfield is because he is knackered after being over-used as an attacking force. Although maybe i should have said up and up the touchline. Admiitedly he isnt the greatest defender but that just isnt his game.
I wouldn't pay much attention to them Most papers write garbage about the Championship as no-one in national papers actually pays any attention to it - it's all Premiership, Premiership, Premiership.
Thinking about it I suspect it may not be too much longer before Devaney is given an enforced rest. If memory serves, I think he's only one more booking away from a 2 match ban. Sam Togwell on the right wing with Mattis in the middle anyone? We might even see Robbie Williams in the middle. After all, "The Dossier" says that he can play there.
