The reason the contract offers were removed was because the were leaving it too long. Aidey White's offer is still on the table, how does that work then?
Is that a quote from the club? If it's just the Chronicle speculating I would suggest they're incorrect.
We have a history of withdrawing contracts if the players hang about. Remember Chris Shuker was on holiday when his contract offer was withdrawn. I think the club take that attitude with certain players who they're unsure about whether they'll make the step up. Aidie White is already proven at this level and its obvious he's more highly rated than WIlliams or Smith. I'm sure if the Georges had signed straight away the club would be highly delighted at securing two bright hopes for the future but they weren't that fussed about being drawn into long contract negotiations. It's not such a massive gamble withdrawing the contracts because neither is likely to come back and bite them on the backside. My own opinion is that Williams was definitely worth further negotiations but the club know the players netter than any of us.
But what you're saying isn't true in regards to Williams. Hecky couldn't assure him of the first team opportunities he wanted, and therefore to allow him to move on without the need for his future club paying compensation, removed the contract offer. Nothing to do with how long he was taking or the club taking a certain attitude. It's all pretty simple so no need for speculating otherwise.
