a stand the same size as the East stand would fit into the space where the west stand is so why do people always say we'd need to build a smaller one to make it fit?

Ever thought of the residents on Grove Street? Or the need to expand anyway?

    correct

and in fact they could build it onto the wide pavement at the "tight" end.

I heard somewhere that planning permission had been granted for a 9000 seat stand though I dont know if there is any truth in it. In any case it will be a long time yet before the west stand is replaced

I wouldn't have thought the distance calculator on google earth was accurate enough to measure the stands though

    Apparently it's pretty good

It accuratly judges the width/length of a car etc and is right with the length of our house.

There are only about 4 houses on grove street arent there?

Near the actual stadium anyway and the stand at that end of the ground would be further way from them than the west stand wall is now anyway so they'd gain space

I think we should all club together

and build one ourselves. I'll provide 200 bricks

me too when I first started seeing people coming up with distances.

I think the main thing that you have to be careful with is the angles that some images are taken at. for example the area of the town hall is not looking straight down (you can see one wall of the town hall) so you have to take that into consideration and just measure the roof, not the wall as well

They'll be gaining space due to the fact that the stand would be further away from their house

I was told by a resident

that they have not a leg to stand on with regard to objecting to planning permission on any grounds.

At least they don't live behind bradfut's home end..the stand is cantelevered above the houses & gardens!

    RE: Apparently it's pretty good

Would it affect thier light? I reckon view could come into the quation cos they may find the new stand more imposing and, whilst i appreciate the old stand is unseemly and not isometrical, there's summat about the old girl. She's stood the time of tradition and she's also what myself and my friends have been brought up with. The main stand was the mutt's nuts in its day when i was a young un..... plus the disgruntled, hunched-shoulder reaction when 'their' lot scored reaction whilst we stood on the North Terrace and they were in the 'end bit'.. And another thing.... it seems to piss every so-called ground enthusiast off (arf!)....... At the end of the day, she's more welcome to stay in my opinion!!

I like the old stand, would like to see it relocated if possible when it finally goes (how good would it be as a museum with all bfc related things inside it) but I think if we do redevelop the west stand then there's no point doing an hearf hearted small stand when there is room for a full sized one. I don't think that people have any 'right to light' legally, just a right to privacy so no windows facing into your bedroom etc.

    Maybe.....

If you had a property in the same aforementioned scenario then you'd think differently about light etc? Cue the excuses/ cop outs.....

    That would depend

on whethe i'd bought the property before of after Oakwell stadium was built opposite.

I've never understood people that buy houses next to places like these and then complain, its like people that buy houses next to airports and then claim for compensation because of the noise. It's almost as if they expected the planes to glide in with the engines turned off.

Depends if there are covenants between the properties. There is no stand alone right. Must be protected by a covenant? Or maybe my knowledge of propertylaw is failing me.
