PS. can someone put me a word in at the club to be the person responsible for keeping the official website up to date........the time spent on the website each day by the club must be about 4 minutes per day

I think they're right

At least as far as Carbon is concerned:

"defender Matt Carbon will leave when his contract expires at the end of June."

So he's presumably still officially a Barnsley player while he effectively works out his notice.

It's possible that they're right on McPhail too - he may have been released from his contract by mutual consent now he's going, i.e. we've stopped paying him so he's more able to speak to other clubs. The same could be true of Carbon but if other clubs aren't falling over themselves to sign him then we've presumably got a duty to pay him until his contract runs out, as long as he turns up for training, etc.
