BARNSLEY have captured Derby County striker Jon Macken on a permanent basis but failed in a bid to bring Everton midfielder Anderson De Silva back to Oakwell.
Manager Simon Davey wanted both players to return to the club after they impressed on loan before the New Year transfer window.

But while the Rams have accepted an undisclosed six-figure fee for Macken, Everton have snubbed the offer for De Silva and the player is now likely to keep his options open until his contract expires at the end of the season

Macken, 30, will go straight into Barnsley's squad for tonight's home game against Colchester United.

Barnsley are without a win in six league games but were buoyed by Friday night's victory over Southend United in the FA Cup that led to the prize of a fifth-round trip to Liverpool. Winger Martin Devaney is back in the squad after illness.

Opponents Colchester are five points adrift of safety at the bottom of the Championship table but have taken four points from their last two games against promotion-chasers Charlton Athletic and Bristol City.
