Young, hungry... ...knowledge of lower league players and has worked on a shoestring budget. The type of thing that'll be needed here. It's the type of manager we should be targetting - we say we need 'experience' but I think that's B*ll*cks. Paul Jewell would be my first choice but I wouldn't be unhappy with someone like him coming in.
We need experience so lets hope this is just speculation. I hope this bit is 100% correct though. Taylor has also rubbished reports in the national press suggesting former Portsmouth manager Tony Adams has already been interviewed. "That is absolutely not correct. We have never even thought about Tony Adams."
Steve Parkin all over again.... If its young ambitious manager they're after look no further Paul Tisdale at Exeter - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Tisdale Managerial Record 2000–01: Western League Division One Champion (promotion to Western League Premier) - Team Bath 2002–03: Western League Premier Champion (promotion to Southern League Division One) - Team Bath 2003–04: Southern League Division One 6th (promotion to Southern League Premier) - Team Bath 2007–08: Conference National Playoff Winner (promotion to League Two) - Exeter City 2008–09: League Two 2nd (promotion to League One) - Exeter City If they are looing at Andy Scott at Brentford, Paul Tisdale must be in with a shout as he pipped Scott to win LMA manager of the year award for L2 last season. Question is can either one of them cope with challenge of the championship, the expectations put on them by the oakwell faithful, win over the fans and command respect of the dressing room?
Lets get a manager who can attract the right kind of players or lets not bother. You're quick to be listing umpteen players that we should be signing, what chance have we if the manager is an known? If Andy Scott and Paul Whatsit is the best we can do, we have no ambition, simple as that.
Good ones ones that have a pedigree and experience in the Championship or higher and have a choice of clubs, that we've seemingly found difficult to convince to come to Barnsley. A manager with a track record would have more of a chance than an unknown.
My Confidence Of Appointing The Right Man...... is shot if we are after someone like him. Managing in the lower leagues is different to managing in the championship and we can't afford to take the risk of it working out for him.
Just paper talk... ...I wouldn't read the newspapers to find out some idea of who it is going to be. You've got more chance with a crystal ball. They add two and two together to get five, mix it up with some genuine quotes from the club, and there you are, something to stick in the back pages of the paper on a slow news day. The media were all over Tony Adams - even we were all panicking a bit - but that's not gonna happen, we've had a run on Laslo whatsisface at the bookies - but nothing actually suggests he's going to get it (plus he is reputedly barmy)... what chance this bloke? Just because the Yorkshire Post say so? Only thing to do is to sit and wait for an announcement from the Club. I've got enough faith that it'll be someone decent (and I don't think for a minute that means it will be a Coppell, a Jewell, a Curbishley etc). For me it's between Robbins and Wilson - but again I know nothing, it's just my hunch.
