Thanks to Steve (Another Bubble) for arranging this last night - brewery tour of Acorn Brewery at Wombwell, excellent night and 4 pints on the tour for £5! Then onto Thawleys for a few more pints of Acorn's brews. The landlord at Thawleys is American, from Detroit, so I was having a little chat with him about the Tigers season and he also said he might be able to help out in getting sponsorship for Barnsley Strikers baseball team! Also good to meet up again with Spartacus and Revvie P.
Aye, it was a cracker Then me, Mrs Rev and Ian walked up to Wetherspoons in Wombwell for yet more of Acorn's brews. I don't remember getting home but seem to think I had a good night! Again, many thanks Steve (Another Bubble) for arranging this caper. Thoroughly enjoyable. How about Wentworth Brewery and pubs before the summer's out?
Sorry mate No space in the diary for this year. We've had the diary sorted since the start of the year I'll suggest it to my successor that he may want to run a trip to Wentworth but that'll be his choice. However, if someone else was to organise a trip off this board, I could see how many JCI members wanted to support a trip from this board...... P.S. Pleased you all enjoyed it, my meory of the end of the evening is a little hazy too!
Interesting in more ways than one... Not only am I a Detroit girl...mi beloved Arthur is a home brewer of fine alea and lagers!! not to ignore the lovely frambois he has going as well. What is the name of the owner? Would be creepy if it is someone I know...LOL
What time does Wetherspoons shut then? As we left Thawleys at 11 - or did I miss you going? Ar lass said I was out of it somewhat when I got home!
RE: Interesting in more ways than one... Sorry - didn't catch his name....I'll find out if I go again. Was a youngish bloke though
Flexible Licenced until 1 but usually stop serving by 12:30 as there aren't usually enough late drinkers to warrant staying open. IIRC, we nipped out back for a hot dog from the barbie and when we came back 5 mins later your taxis must have come cos there was no-one in sight. So we arrived in Spoons at about 11:20 and had a further hour, which made the difference between very drunk and gibbering wreck.
RE: Sorry mate I wasn't making any suggestion for you to organise it! I was simply wondering if there would be enough interest to make it worth me ringing the brewery. I am pretty sure me, thee, ES and Sparty would show but you need a decent crowd to make it worth the brewery's while.
I agree about the numbers If you or anyone else does decide to try & organise anything, I'll see how much support I can drum up from amongst my various mates.
RE: Sorry mate Hello, I would be interested also. I almost replied to Bubble's original offer, but I couldn't make it. If you wouldn't mind me gate crashing, it sounds like a great idea. How many are needed to make it worthwhile? Stephen
No gatecrashing involved. Raising enough people who are all free on the same night is going to be the difficulty so the more people express an interest, the more chance there is of it actually happening. I'll ring the brewery up tomorrow, enquire about costs, numbers and available dates and let's see if we can cobble some arrangements together.
RE: Flexible Well I was at the bar with my mate chatting to the landlord when one of the women in the party came up and said the taxis were here and to sup up quick! Hot dogs? Barbi? Missed that! The pie and peas were nice though!
