Lovely when he carried his young one on to pitch ,and his young one in barnsley kit .hope we can keep him
He's got it made at Barnsley, loved by the fans (as he was last time), since he left he has never really fit in anywhere else, if we get promoted he would be stupid to move elsewhere at the moment, and he clearly loves the club and fans.........unless of course he has a dick for a manager????
it's gonna be such a tough decision for him. you can see the club properly means summat to him. while he's too good for league 1, i still don't think he would be a stand out player in the championship, and he's not gonna be taken in by the fans like he has been at barnsley. most likely a squad player, with flashes of brilliance here and there. one last decent contract, then drop back down to L1 again...probably back to us! it will probably come down to a financial decision. he's 29 next, and this would probably be his last chance of a decent money contract. got a family to think about. he would go with my blessing. if we were to go up like, i'm 99% certain he'd stay.
Tough one to call really. I believe he really does have an affinity with the club but at the end of the day he's too good for league 1 and with a young family and a limited number of playing years left I certainly wouldn't begrudge him accepting 4,5,6 times more money going up a division. Would love to see him stay at the club and eventually stick around in a coaching capacity like Hassell & Disco.
I thought that was a great touch for his kid to be fully kitted out like his dad. And hopefully money isn't everything for him. He's clearly enjoying his football and being back in a red shirt. He could become an absolute legend, something we have been lacking over the last few years.
I really can't see him being here next season because even if we go up, the offer we can make him as a smaller budget club in the championship will be half what he can get elsewhere and as others have said, he has a limited number of years left and 30 is approaching. Any big offer he gets in the summer could well be his last. If we don't go up I don't see us having a prayer of keeping him. Yes, he has an affinity with the club, but this is his job at the end of the day. If he does go, he will go with my blessing because he has totally turned our season. It is rare that you can hold a player who is clearly in the wrong division. It would be a huge blow to lose him.
I think it may well come down to whether we can get back into the championship or not. His comments in the programme (what a great programme that was, so much content and so little advertising and just £5 too) were very much about giving something back, his comments post match were to the fans and how they believe and get behind him. If we go up, we have a chance at paying him closer to his worth which is way more than a division 1 salary. Its obvious he feels he belongs at Barnsley, but sadly money has a way of making such a thing of lesser importance for many. What I have to say though, after that performance and how he's kickstarted this season from absolute disaster, though he's not played as many games as other ex reds, he should be immortalised in our folklore and he's certainly done us and himself very very proud.
i think he's repaid any unpaid debt/unfinished business, times over. i doubt he thought his return would be anything like as successful as it has been. which will just make his decision to leave tougher. i still think he'll go though. he'll probably quadruple his salary with us..
I think come summer he will see what division we are in have a sit down with patrick cryne then his family. And make a big desision does he try have another crack at the championship at 28 now is the time to try again maybe. Or does he play it safe be at a club where he is loved by all. Where he his a big fish in a small pond so to speak. And where he knows it's stability for him and his family. No matter what he is a oakwell legend in my eyes.
Re: Referenced Norman Rimmington in his interview Yeah I saw that. Gave him a shout out watching back home. I think he'll have plenty of offers. Really put himself in the shop window yesterday.
I think it will be a tough decision for him. Especially if we achieve promotion. But as was said earlier up the thread we wont be able to compete with the money other clubs can offer. I expect amongst others Bristol City will definetly be in with a contract offer and he will have to give it serious consideration. He's approaching 30 and he has to consider his future. His notes in the wembley programme show how much he loves it here and I would be overjoyed if we managed to keep hold of him. I think he plays his best football for us and the decision will come down to a) do I sign for a club where Im loved, that I love, where Im one of (if not) THE best players and I can use my experience, skill and influence to be a central figure in building something special. or b) do I look after my immediate future, accept that I wont be the king pin player and be more of a regular first teamer/squad player but be much better paid for it? Good Luck Adam, whatever you decide.
Didn't get a program but heard this mentioned a few times could anyone tell me the gist of what he said I'm intrigued now
I think if we go up we have a chance of keeping him. He'll not leave for best offer if it's just a couple of grand a week difference but if he can get a big money contract say two to three times what we'd pay in championship he has to go for it IMO and it would be with my best wishes ( unless he comes up against us anytime) What he's done for this football club since his return has been phenomenal ,we were on our arses (as far as results wise ) he was the missing piece of the jigsaw and boy has he put the picture together.
Agree........great deal for all parties. He has kind of resurrected his playing playing career with us and we have both (player and club) benefited immensely. Yes hes a top top man for us but I feel money will talk louder (hope I'm wrong)
Limited number of playing days but another good 30 plus years when he retires as a player where he can make money in coaching, management, journalism or whatever he's got an interest in like guys like Richard Kell and Matty Appleby did. Retiring from playing isn't the end of earning (possibly) good money. Never get the arguement of limited earning days left. Could get it if one of our recent non league players like Roberts, Williams etc were in their 30s and offered big money as in footie terms they won't be rich. Adam on the otherhand hasn't been short of good contracts, signing on fees etc so it wouldn't be a surprise if he already had multi millionaire status.
