Adam Phiĺlips

According to the Lancashire Evening Post , Preston have approached us to sign Adam Phillips.

 

If he has and they meet our valuation then he'll likely be off. Would be a huge loss though. Worth 20 goals a season including assists. I'd be hoping we'd be asking for properly top dollar. £3 million+

Can't see Preston being able to afford him. We were getting 3-4 million for defensive players with contracts running out. Generally attacking players go for more and we don't need to sell.

 

Strange one is Phillips scores goals in blocks and his assist stats are good but I feel I would like to see a bit more from him. Maybe it's just me but if we can get good money for him I think he's replaceable.

There’s been a number of games in these last 2 seasons where Phillips has completely disappeared. But then there’s also been a number of games where he’s popped up with a goal and/or an assist. Nobody can argue with his goal output and I suppose if he was more involved, he wouldn’t be here.

He’d be a big loss in my opinion. We’ve already lost a lot of starters from last season and I know we like/need to recoup transfer funds but I would hope we keep hold. Particularly with the length of contract he’s on.

 

Goals win games and Phillips scores goals. Don't want to lose any player like that. However, our business model operates better when selling players. If the money is re-invested wisely and its good money. Sell him.

 

Guessing he will more than likely have an agreed fee as part of his contract so if they meet that it will more than likely be down to him to decide.

 

If this is true, then the concern is: What's the release clause ? It may be less than the Club's valuation.

 

We've lost 3 of our 4 top goal scorers from last season; we can't afford to let the 4th one go.

 

Hopefully Browne decides to stay and so they won't want him as much, or willing to pay as much, so we keep him.

How do you know he has a release clause mate?

 

You'd fancy us to bring some players in though. Especially after last season and new manager Clarke/Hourihane bounce effect.

 

£88 millon in debt; though since when has that mattered.

He needs to stay another season see if Conner can make him the complete player he can be,he can play,but if he can cover every midfield job,ie play in front of back 4,centre of park like readers,he could even play striker.teams sign players off us knowing they can improve even further we should be making them the complete player then selling,I hope we dont sell him and head coach is a good un,I recon Conner will end up are main he,and hopefully we stat showing some more ambition,champion ship is worth money,us finishing 5th then getting relegated I still cant get mi head round,just remember someone saying weve finished 5th and not had an offer for any players,it makes me sick all we want to do is make money on players,it just doesnt feel right,as small as we are I've been old Wembley,v Ipswich,millennium at Wales,v Swansea,and new Wembley in semis,a bet theres not many teams av done that,nobody as small as us.

 

I think Clarke looks to have more bo llo cks than Collins did. Best time to bring in players is when you've first taken over. The board are still trying to please you as much as you are them. Collins never brought any ideas to the board. Selling Phillips might enable him to bring a couple of his own players while he's in credit.

 

Or the board might dismiss the whole thing and then sell Philips the last day of the transfer window as they have done before with Kitchin, Moore etc Whose betting?

 

I'm in agreement. I was hoping Collins would play him in a 2 up front. I seem to remember a game we were losing and him doing that. Scored 1 maybe 2.

 

I'd like to see a statement of intent if this is true and the club set a deadline of two weeks for Preston to stump up however many million, or they don't sell, end of story.

Chances are there'll be a pitiful release clause in his contract and he'll be off.
