Luton have submitted a bid - https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/luton-town-launch-transfer-bid-for-barnsley-star-adam-phillips/
If we sold a star player to a team in the same division it would be total madness. Let’s hope it’s just a rumour
Hmmmm, promotion rival waits until 48hrs before window closes to try and entice one of our best players, giving us little chance of replacement. They'll be offering more £, but he's as much chance of promotion with us as with them. Tell them £6m minimum, upfront, cos they've got it. Although that source isn't the most reliable.
He's under contract for a while and by all accounts is very happy here. Selling him to a promotion rival when he's in such good form wouldn't be a huge risk from the board's perspective. But on the other hand we're not exactly short of talent in midfield, and Luton having parachute money means we're in a strong position to ask for top dollar. But what would "top dollar" look like for Adam Phillips? I'd say under the circumstances, £3 million absolute minimum. And even then I'd hesitate. Imagine if we sold him and Luton pipped us to automatic or beat us in the playoffs and Phillips played a starring role? All of a sudden that £3 million is looking like a drop in the ocean compared with what we'd have missed out on. We'd not just be weakening our own squad, we'd be strengthening a direct rival as well - so any asking price would surely have to reflect that.
You mean like when we sold them George Moncur in 2019 and they beat us to the title, except ten times worse?
People saying we have a talented midfield and could let him go are insane. Did you see us against Rotherham the other night? Completely blunt. He comes on and changes the game. if they’re serious about getting out of this league then they need to tell them it’s mega money, or **** off.
They may be in the same division and a ‘promotion rival’ - but the books still say what they say and if we have to sell somebody - whilst I’d love to keep Phillo - I’ve been hugely impressed with his workrate this season and his creativity remains as good as always - can they afford to be picky? We all as fans want a competitive team. But I want a club in five years more.
Straight swap for Mads AND Woodrow? No fee to balance books but no fees outlaid to sign what we need. Got to be worth a cheeky ask - though realistically we’d not be able to pay the wages they’re on.
Our most productive midfielder last few seasons. Sell to a rival in this league and it would be very poor, although every player has there price 5million and keep woodrow in luton
Hope there is no substance to this as Phillips is playing well, if it is Luton then there won’t be any ex players coming back as I imagine they are all on very good wages at moment
I’ll say similar to what I said when Connell was apparently close to joining Wycombe. It’s a big no from me simply because we are in the same division. I get we have to generate some funds and if it was a move to the championship, I’d be more accepting and wish them well. Phillips has obviously been a key player for us since he signed given his goal involvement stats. I think so far this season he’s not only kept that up but he’s also much more involved in the general play of our games.
Woodrows played a grand total of 59 minutes this season I don't think Luton would have a problem with letting him leave but he will be on good wages. I wouldn't want him back anyway tbh.
