Keith Hill said in his interview he thought it was a very harsh decision. He said both players made a genuine challenge for the ball, but Smith did leave the ground and so it may have looked to the ref like a malicious challenge.
Trevor Kettle was the ref so could have been for anything. But 5 live said it a shuddering challange so I'll wait until I see it.
