Confession: I've never been out for a night in Barnsley in my life. OK, now that's out of the way, I've just got a mail from a mate of mine saying "Staying in Barnsley next Monday night-any recommendations for places to go?". Now, apart from the fact he's a Man City fan he's a very nice bloke who would probably appreciate a friendly atmosphere and decent beer rather than loud music and lager (although he drinks far too much Bud for my liking). Recommendations? Didn't you have some place you raved about, ES?
35,000/1 chance but..... did he ever say he headbutted a barnsley fan when marcelle scored the injury time winner at main road...... if so, I know the perfect place!
Thanks everyone I'm sure he'll have a great time. What a fun-packed evening, eh? Only sorry I can't make it myself!
ok, honest answer... I couldn't tell you where to go on a Monday night, not been out on a monday night in town for about 4 years. Sorry
Assuming he likes real ale & is staying town centre-ish There's The Courthouse at the bottom of Regent Street & The Gatehouse just over the road. There's meant to be another real ale pub called The Joseph Bramah opening at the bottom of Market Hill but I suspect it's still some weeks away. Slightly further out, there's The George & Dragon at the bottom of Summer Lane & the Shaw Inn on the junction of Shaw Lane & Racecommon Road. Other than that, town is pretty much the same, lots of "plastic" pubs, serving electric beer.
Cheaply? I'll pay for it Don....and I believe that the Gatehouse isn't particularly cheap. Alternatively I could take out a 2nd mortgage for someone to open a bottle of piss for me!
