Me and the hubby been living in our rented property for 7 years now and for the first 5 and 1/2 we did a pretty good job at keeping the back garden maintained. Since then, we just can't be bothered anymore. There are 3 apple trees that drop leaves and hundreds of apples that we can't be bothered to sweep up and weeds have had an absolute field day this year so half of our garden (which is all paved) is covered in them. Also, bushes from behind our fence (we live directly in front of a railway line) are now hanging over into our garden. I know it's been needed to be sorted out for a while but this was proved to me even more when the delivery guy of our new tumble dryer quipped 'Not keen gardeners are you?' (which took me a few days to get over his cheek!)

Anyway, we can't really be bothered to tackle it so we thought we might pay someone to do it for us. The thing is, we have absolutely no idea what this might cost. I've send messages to quite a few companies on f/b with pictures but they have offered to come look and give a free quote. I know I could take them up on that but as I have no idea even roughly what they might suggest, I don't really want to waste their (and my) time and also face the embarrassment when they are there in person telling me an amount.

I'm posting some pictures which I am super embarrassed about but I need some advice on ball-park figures please. Also, I know the picnic bench is past it's best, our landlord is buying us a new one (which is another reason why we needed the garden sorted soon because if the tumble dryer guy commented on it, then the picnic bench guy definitely will).

The paving stones could also do with a pressure wash but I'm not paying more for that as it's not my house, I just want somewhere I can sit when it's sunny.

Eyup love! It's what I do is the old gardening. Looking at the pics, for weeding, bushes etc tidying up in general id have quoted you c£60 inc taking away owt that wouldn't fit in green bin (or all disposed of). For another £30 I'd jet wesh the patio aswell.

Hth. Ps I'm not going to Bradfud either!

    Good luck.

Ps as a matter of interest/noseyness Lerrus know what quotes you do get;-)

Cheers Cunning! That sounds very reasonable to me. I'll let you know if I do get someone to come around, I just feel weird them coming and giving me a quote face to face as it's hard to refuse then.

Ps How dare you?! I don't live in Bradford!

This s a perfect example of how to change a word I like - garden - into a word I hate, just by adding "ing" to it.

I'm not sure how much time you have but one way to do it would be to just cover anything with opaque black plastic sheeting, to block the light out. Just spread that everywhere and wait. The weeds, along with grass and anything else growing under it, will die off in time.

By the way, as you can guess from my first point above, I'm no gardener, so apologies if I've written a load of garbage. Happy gardening.

For a small job like that with no materials required I wouldn't come out quote, go away then comeback, I'd just do it off the pics!

Although I did that a few weeks back, the pics looked like Wembley but twas a jungle in actual fact:-/

Get the school kids on a summer nature trail. Tell em all to pick 100 weeds each to take back into class to identify. :)

What a rip off, I'd do it for £80*

*Not including flights, airport transfers, 3 meals per day, accommodation and facilities to wash my African dress after a hard days weeding.
