I hurt my knee playing football on Saturday and it's still sore. I spoke to the NHS direct help-line the other day and they suggested to give it 48 hours and if it's no better to go to hospital. I'm currently in Leeds, so can i just turn up at the A&E department of LGI? It's the top of my knee (tendon, most likely) and I'm hobbling along. My knee tends to be ok, until about mid afternoon. I want to get it sorted and not risk making it worse. Is there anything that they could do though, if it's just a pull or tear or something? Cheers
RE: yeah Only prob is my GP's back home and he's pretty useless. What about if i go in the middle of the night, ie. 1am?
RE: yeah I went to see my doctor and because he was on holiday i saw a temp. When i told him what was wrong with me he said " oh dear you're not very well are you"</p> NO **** SHERLOCK... </p>
RE: yeah I just get prescribed paracetamol... it's no bloody good. I think I'll go down to the A&E just after midnight. Should be relatively quiet on a Thursday night
RE: yeah Same thing happened to me a few years ago, i ignored it and ended up having 3 op's because i tore my ligament and a cyst had formed on it, so now i have hardly any ligament in me right knee.
4 hours mate my mate is nurse at dewsbury who helped out there in october. very low priority. when my missus broke her wrist she went at 2am and it took 3 hours. give it a go tho - what ya got to lose?
4 hours Pathetic isn't it? I took the missus to casualty in Northampton a couple of years back 'cos she'd fallen down the stairs and knocked herself unconscious. We arrived at 11:00 at night and left at 3:30 without having seen anyone as they said it was extremely unlikely anyone would be able to see her for at least the next two hours (i.e. a minimum of 6 and a half hours). We then had to go back the next day for over 3 hours before someone finally saw her. I actually turned down free private health care provided by my employer when I was younger (and single) but following a few experiences like that I'm truly sorry to say I wouldn't do it now.
How did you hurt it? Was it a twist? An extrinsic injury? Have you tried applying ice every couple of hours for 20 mins at a time.
It was over streching for a ball.. not applied ice, NHS didn't tell me to and I'm not oerly familiar with injuries. my bro's doing sports therapy at uni and he said to rest it and keep it elevated. Its a little swollen, but noting majorly noticable. I'm going to hospital tomorrow.
Go to A&E , I got injured playing Sunday Footy went to casualty and they put me straight through at the head of the queue ( I think the tears in my eyes gave away the pain). It turned out I had a massive Haematoma on the back of my thigh.</p> Show the pain when you go!</p>
It's the triage system.. if your wife had no obvious injuries and was concious and normal she automatically goes behind people with serios life threatening injuries/situations and those with serious wounds.
RE: It's the triage system.. I understand the principle but by 3:30 am there had not been anyone else in casualty for an hour.
RE: 4 hours I went in once not being able to breath and shaking uncontrollably. It was over four hours before I saw anyone, by which stage it had passed.
