My friends have just had a daughter who was born in Halifax, the problem is that they are both Polish and want a passport for her, can she have a British passport as she was born in this country or does she have to have a Polish passport.

    I'd say daughter is Polish

Unlikely to be entitled to British passport but best to check.

If the parents are British Citizens then it's a British passport.

If not, it's a Polish one, I believe.

    Agree with Jay

if she is born here surely nobody can deny she is a British citizen. But she will be able to get dual citizenship through her parents.

Copied blindly from a Google search

You should note that from 1 January 1983, a person born in Britain is not automatically a British Citizen by virtue only of the fact that he/she has been born in Britain. In addition, at the time of birth, the child must either have a British Citizen parent, or a parent who enjoys indefinite leave to enter the UK.

A child born in the UK to parents neither of whom was at the time of the child’s birth, a British Citizen nor enjoyed indefinite leave to enter, is entitled to register as a British Citizen (and will be a British Citizen by birth in the UK), once one or both parents are granted indefinite leave to remain. Application is necessary to take advantage of this right to register – before the child’s 18th birthday.

Poland, being an EU country, would make them elligible for indefinite residence.
