How much will it cost to have a solicitor defend you in a magistrates court to try and prevent a driving ban for speeding?

My friend was speeding

He accepts he has done wrong, and will pay whatever the magistrates court sees fit. He would willingly do charity or community service.
However a driving ban would be a career ender, and this person would consider suicide should his fledgling career be taken away by his own stupidity.
He daren't tell his family or girlfriend as he doesn't want to spoil Christmas for them, but fears that keeping it a secret from his girlfriend and lifelong partner may split them up.

RE: My friend was speeding

If driving is essential to his job then he could argue that and perhaps get a more leniant sentence, it depends I guess on how fast he was going.
But I'm not sure, if he's gone over the points limit then that might be it.

I'm probably wrong

But unless it was extremely excessive speed, summat like 70 in a 30 zone or 100mph + on the motorway he'll not get banned if it's a first offence will he ?

He's going to struggle then. The best scenario for him is I think he gets a short term ban. It can be reduced by attending driving rehabilitation courses or summat.

Interesting

"The evidence to convict you must come from at least two different sources, although one of these may be mechanical such as the police car's speedometer/radar gun/VASCAR"

So how can you be convicted purely using a speed camera then?

He needs help from his company

A sales guy for a company I used to work for already had 3 points and was clocked at 104 on the M3.

Company wrote letter explaining he would lose job etc and he got away with large fine and 6 more points.

it probably depends on magistrate 101 is only 1 mph over the fixed pen limit - If we are in Job losing territory he probably should see a solicitor - shouldnt take too much legal time

cant you get legal aid if you,re going to lose your job through a conviction like the prem league footy player on £36000 a week who went to court for spitting at a fan DIOF i think

Bleedin' 'ell !

Sorry but he's gotta learn sense before he kills somebody.

101 isn't just 1 mph over the fixed penalty limit - it's 31mph over the permitted legal limit.

he wants banning, how do you think i feel im just coming to the end of a year long driving ban for suffering from a blackout (ive never had as much as a parking ticket passed my test in 1971) and idiots like this are allowed to carry on driving, he wants the book throwing at him.

The new plan for doing over a ton on the motorway...

Is to attend some sessions on speeding, why it's wrong etc. Rehabilitation really, not sure if it's in place yet, but I hope for the sake of your friend it is. Aslong as they can't prove that he wasn't in control of the vehicle then he's surely got a case to plead leniency.
