on goals conceded per goalkeeper in LEAGUE games. I thought this was only appropriate as we play only teams of a certain quality.

After many years on this forum i've seen that certain posters seem to think that Goalkeepers are judged by shot stopping. I don't agree with this as i've many goalkeepers of the highest level speak about other things including a few weeks ago by the guy voted Skybet championship goalkeeper of the year who said it was is game even though he didn't have a shot to save. He mentioned communication with the team and dealing with the ball when it came into the 18 yard box.

Anyway I've tried to go through all the games. We've only had two goalkeepers that have played double figures but I entered the other goakeeper.

Steele, 1.7 goals per game conceded.
    Pollitt, 2.00
and the leading player for Barnsley this season with a good record of 1.2 goals per game.

If you take those figures over a full season then it highlights what a difference it is.

    Steele, 78
    Pollitt,92
    Butland 55.

so Butland 23 better than second place and 37 away from third.

we'll have less of that. I've gone through all the games and had to remember when which goalkeeper was playing.

I'm not seeing the point. Butland is a goalkeeper on the books at a Premier League club that paid £4m for him, and an England international.

You'd expect him to be better than our regular keeper, but that does not detract from whether Steele should be POTY or not.

I now take back my vote for Chris O'Grady because he's not as good as Luis Suarez!

    1) Does this take into account the opposition?

    2) Does it take into account the defenders playing in that game?

But certain posters (need to take a trip to get their mince pies tested I think) have said that Steeles better.

Butland had to deal with QPR and Leicester away along with Burnley away which are likely to be the three teams that get promoted. So if you are talking opposition then he had some tough matches.

Steele is a better goalkeeper than Luis Suarez.

In a Barnsley shirt I didn't think there was much between them - because our defence has been woeful.

Here are some statistics for you:

In his games for us Jack Butland let in a total of 16 goals and made 22 saves. That means he let in 42% of shots on target.

Luke Steele conceded 58 goals and made 98 saves. That means he let in 37% of shots on target.

I fully expect this post to be ignored. Again.

This ignores the crucial fact that the 10 players in front of them continually changed.

For example Pollitt was in goal during our poorest period of the season & 3 of his back 4 were Wiseman, M'Voto & Kennedy.

By the time Butland was here Ramage was a regular alongside Cranie & they struck up a good partnership

    Means nothing.

Depends on who played for those teams on the day.
Depends on the performance of the opposition.
Depends on the performance of the defence.
Depends on the mindset of the team the goalkeeper is playing for (are they going out not to lose, or going out for a win)

All variables that have to be considered.

exactly that!, different keepers will have played against different levels of opposition with different defensive cover under different levels of pressure.

Got to admire your dedication Hemsy, even if I do think it would be better served doing something constructive.

I've noticed that there's one sentence which is absent from all of your posts. An addition that most regular contributors add to their posts to stop folk leaping on them like a tonne of bricks.

That sentence is 'but you already know my thoughts on him'.

Try it Phil. I dare you.

Rubbish. Did you see that save Suarez made for Uruguay in the last World Cup? You don't see Steele playing in the World Cup!!
