After consulting with the IT dept of Poet's employer

we (Site Admin) have information which confirms that a poster of this BBS did indeed pose as a member of the Site Admin team of this BBS and contact Poet's employer requesting that action was taken to prevent him from posting.

Site Admin would like to call upon that person to own up by their own accord and would request that they officially apologise to both Poet and Site Admin for their despicable actions outlined here http://www.barnsleyfc.org.uk/bbs/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=145715&posts=40#M980163.

Couldn't contacting the IT department make matters worse?

I can imagine them having a field day.

 

Do you actually know who it was by their IP address, and are wanting them to own up? Or are you none the wiser to their identity?</p>

Personally speaking if you do know who would do such a thing I'd be happier in the knowledge that such an individual would be barred for life.</p>

 

They were able to provide the email headers which included the senders ip address.

 

Well done for finally hiding the IP address from public view. Always thought it left people vulnerable from personal attack.

That should be a pretty big clue then, particularly if the culprit used a programme such as Outlook, and simply changed the sender address details. Hope you do find out who it was.</p>

 

Thanks for pointing out the obvious

The original reason of having it was to try and detur people using duplicate accounts - I guess the more sinister use got overlooked.

Site changes have been made inadvertantly trying to switch off the ip address view. Will change it back
