    .... finally ditched AVG 8 today and installed Avast.</p>

    Can't believe the difference.</p>

    It's like my PC has been liberated and can move again. I was preparing to shut it down, save files to a separate hard drive, then wipe the entire hard drive and implement the original reinsatall disks.</p>

    Won't be necessary now.</p>
