For all the use Colgan was for their second goal, he might as well have been sitting at the back of net reading last week's Chronicle.

how do you work that out?

After reid and co completly failed to deal with the first ball out on the penalty area he tried to go for the ball at the post but was blocked off by austin (I think it was him)

If he came for the ball at corners ........

...... it wouldn't get to the 'goalmouth scramble' stage cos he would more than likely get a free kick if he didn't get the ball.

His uncertainty causes all the mayhem, it's same every match and he needs a kick up the backside or replacing

    I agree in part

He doesn't come for the ball nearly often enough but I don't think he should have been coming for it last night. It was near the penalty spot and I think that's too far to go in a crowded box when you might not get the ball. If he misses it it's an empty net because he isnt getting back in time.

I think we need to spend a few days working on our set pieces because its painfully obvious that it is where we are lacking, both defensively and attacking. Yet it doesn't seem to have been addressed because we're getting no better and it really is basic stuff.

    One swallow and all that

They still need working on because they aren't good enough

So scoring from one isnt good enough!

I think our 2 centre backs recently have played well. Reid and Nyatanga look ok.

My fear is left back where I personally would go with Austin or Eckersley over Hecky every time.

Scoring from ONE isn't exactly that good is it. All credit to nyatanga for nodding it in but if you do the same thing 500 times a season then you're bound to get one in, it doesnt mean that it's a good tactic though. I think a lot of people agree that our corner's in general are poor and that we need to learn to vary the tactics up a little bit because most teams are wise to us.

As for the defence, I'd much rather see austin at left back than hecky and eckersley can go back to man utd tomorrow for me. I'm not saying that he's worse than heckingbottom but he's not really any better either so it's a bit of a waste of a wage (i know we cant send him back). Hassell obviously at rigt back (and Tonge as second choice right back)
Nyatanga looks to be a great player in the middle of the defence and reid is a good player himself but I don't think he's anywhere near as good as Kay.

My idea back four based on what we have at the club would be Hassell - Kay - Nyatanga - Austin

And we should beg forgiveness from Lukic and get him back in to train the keepers as soon as possible.

That defence looks ok at on paper but Reid at the moment doesnt deserve dropping.

Kay at his best and Reid at his best I would pick Kay but at the moment Nyatanga and Reid have got the shirts and are playing well.

Nyatanga's not here next season, so maybe an idea to get Kay's future sorted sooner rather than later. And Hassell's. And Howard while we're at it, seeing as months ago he said he wanted to stop.

They aren't doing that well though, they've conceded 16 goals in the last 7 games which is over two goals a game on average.

How about Nyatanga at left back and Kay in the middle with reid?

    it's nearly sorted

But they've been saying it's nearly sorted for almost as long as the downloads section has been coming soon on the official site.

May be an option definately. Nyatanga looks better than all the other options we have.

Whatever SD decides he is winning a few games and we will have to accept his judgement.
