If I was a current pro footballer, there is no way I would have an agent. I would use a solicitor to deal with the legalities. Why lose 10+% when for a much reduced fee you could get what you want. Mind you, I am far better educated than the vast majority of footballers.

Because I think the clubs pay the agent's fee ?

Yeah I'm sure it's the clubs who pay it. I'm sure the Pogba deal was getting held up because Mino Raiola was negotiating his 30 million agent fee

There are some good agents who look after the interests of the players. But there are ******* parasites as well who engineer moves by unsettling players so they get their grubby cut. My answer ? All agents fees should be paid by the players not the club.

Anyone would want to use one.

The contract that they sign can be bonkers from what i've heard. The agents will look after their clients.

Just imagine the details in the Stones and Pogba deals. 99.99% of people on earth wouldn't have a clue never mind footballers that will have a million and one things running through their mind.

The player will want to know whats going off. What he's allowed to do and isn't allowed to do.

Why would a player have more things running through his mind than 99.99% of people on earth? And can't a solicitor look over the legal aspects and clauses of a contact?

They mostly are paid by the players, it's even tax deductible. There are agents who broker deals and are paid fees and gratuities by the club. As with the Big Sam scandal a few years back, which the FA have seemingly forgotten/forgiven.

    Not what I meant.

99.99 of the population wouldn't understand what they mean never mind footballers that have to deal with it and the million over things that go with it Theirs a video on the man city youtube of Stones media first day and he's having a camera follow him about. He'll have done a medical, told family and have to understand a contract. It's not going to happen.

Do you need an agent to tell you to accept a job or not?

No but it's not that simple and whilst you want to have ago at them Footballers i'll not do that if it's okay with you.

They are linked to so many things. He might not be able to wear a certain brand of clothing. He might not be able to drink a certain brand of drink. He might not be able to use a certain brand of anything.

Then come image rights. Who owns the name JOHN STONES now? Potentially that's Manchester City.
What about if he disagrees with some of the detail

The solution to all of the above is to ban football teams from inserting these clauses or buying the naming rights.

    Why it's a business deal.

Some might sell them, some don't.

Big Business use lawyers. In football they are called agents. Only the same.

There is a difference between lawyers and agents, a lawyer looks over a contract and advises his client, an agent works for months destabilising football clubs and at times his own client deliberately to engineer the move in the first place so that he can then advise on a contract and pocket a percentage of the money. If the agents job was purely to look over the contract and advise on it then many people would have no issue but it isn't, that is simply a secondary role these days the main role is engineering moves and whoever they get a percentage of the fee there is a huge conflict of interest
