Looking at points tally and position alone, it obviously wasn't a good season. However, looking back on this season in years to come, i think it will be seen as a turning point in our fortunes.
Had we won 2 more games in the firat half of the season, it would have been our best season since returning to this division. Its such a fine line, I suppose you could say anything below 60 points is seen as a poor season, yet as our goal for the past few years has been to stay up, then id say last season was a success.
If we had won two more games in the first half of the season we wouldn't have sacked that pillock Hill and we'd have gone down!
Give over. How can a season where we were sat at the foot of the table for the first half and survived in the last couple of minutes of the last game be considered one of the best you've witnessed? It was awful and that was all down to the arsehole who insulted the fans, the board and the club at every opportunity.
The first 2 months were good. The middle 3 months were ****. The last 4 months were outstanding. Not bad in my eyes.
You've answered your own question, pal. We were dead and buried. We then lost our top scorer (Davies), our standout youth player (Stones), and most consistent player (Golbourne). We signed a 'has been' (Scotland) and another ex Daley (COG) on loan. We then played promotion football. And stayed up. In the most amazing manner. Nothing 'awful' about it. We also took thousands of fans to Milton Keynes, Sheffield, Manchester and Huddersfield. Proper support, proper memories. FA Cup quarter finalists, too. We saw Sir Bobby in goal on the opening day in one of the greatest away days I've had. Again, backed by thousands. Yes it was **** for 3 months, and the manager lost the plot, but without the sour the sweet wouldn't be as sweet. REIGHT season. My opinion.
all I can say on the subject is: 1st match under flicker was against the scum from up the m1 what does their then manager say about us: Barnsley were the best team we played all season, that from colin !
First half of the season was terrible. As was the whole of 2012 come to that (Birmingham away apart). But the second half was fantastic. The best since Bassett's play-off season. I know we got promoted in 2006 and the play-off final was spectacular, but I thought much of that season was a bit dull. It didn't feel like any of the other promotion campaigns I've witnessed. The second half of last season was much more exciting and much more enjoyable.
We had one of our longest unbeaten runs for years, probably since the Premier promotion season, how we were still down in a relegation battle after that was amazing, the league was the tightest it had been for years. Having said that, it was a poor season because we were, once again, in a relegation battle, and after 7 years back in the division we really should be looking to do better.
Disagree. I was more excited under Bassett thinking a return to the premiership was only 90 minutes away. How wrong that turned out to be though
On paper finishing 4th was poor but as someone above put it it's all relative. According to bookies & 'experts' we were going down by Christmas & shouldn't of even been competing with the likes of Wolves but ended up above them
