Why are so many people against the idea of him becoming manager? So at his previous club he played long ball quite a lot? At least it worked, unlike hoofball to Odejayi with no-one supporting him. Quite frankly I've got to the point where I don't care how rubbish the football is as long as we win matches. He did a great job at Watford until they got in financial strife (not his fault) and sold or loaned out all of his best players. Not only did that make his job harder as he had a weaker squad, but it was bound to affect his mindset and outlook for the future. Must have been hard knowing that you've really no hope in the near future as all your best players are sold. He wouldn't be guaranteed to do well of course, no-one is, but he'd be one of the best realistic options I can think of. Everyone's clamouring for Robins, but he's not managed at this level yet and is therefore unproven. He has done a great job at Rotherham, but then Steve Parkin did a great job at Rochdale.
I'm not - I'd like to see him get the job and if he was offered it he would take it His football isn't great to watch but it's effective. Davey's football was awful to watch and was ineffective. If we started winning a few games people would soon become unconcerned about the style of football.
I've said it before and I'll say it again I'm much happier on a Saturday at 5pm if we've won 1-0 and played hoofball/got lucky etc rather than if I've seen a fantastic end to end 3-3 draw. Football is about winning as far as I'm concerned. Yes I'd rather we played well and won, but the most enjoyment I get at games is when we score goals, and then win, and it hasn't been often for a long time. Oakwell used to be a bit of a fortress, it is for visiting sides at the moment.
I agree. Winning is all that matters. Some of the 'football' in the Bassett era was awful, but he got results even though his teams couldn't defend for toffee. No-one could say it wasn't entertaining.
Tend to agree mate. I wouldn't bee too disappointed with Boothroyd. I think realistically it is between him and Jewell.
personally, even though we did very well under Bassett, it never had the same aura about it as it did under Danny. I never felt as utterly happy, Birmingham aside in the Play off semi, where he tactic'd Francis to death.
I'd be happy with him. Let's face it, any realistic managerial target for us will have their bad points. Would love to see Redfearn come in as assistant too.
I agree it's got to be about winning games, how we do it does anyone care, would rather have 3 points than none. If we start winning games confidence will come back and who knows.
ODJ and Gray up front Bobby Hassell taking all the free kicks. No need for a midfield, straight from back to front. Happy days. That said, it worked for Stoke, so why not us.
In fairness they did play some good football as well Tarred with a similar brush to both Stoke and Bolton, who in fact also play some good football.
it was only awful under bassett when shipps and hignett left were we not the top scorers in the championship when we got to the play off final, what a load of tosh
Its degrees of against He wouldnt be my preference - I can think of 4 or 5 candidates I'd prefer - at least 2 of them are realisic Having said that I wouldnt be gutted if we hire him - I just would like to win playing good football - Like we did under Clarke (first time) Hunter Wilson and to be honest Basset and Ritchie But I've nothing too strong against him - but we have historically played football through the midfield when we have done well - Barnsley isnt a long ball team.
For me, its the lack of a plan B and why, sinc eleavinh watford has he not had a job despite applying for several?
