    But he's never really done much in management, and took Wednesday down to League 1.

    Seems a really strange appointment.

    Very strange appointment. I'd not even want him as our manager in this league nevermind in the premiership. Their fans can't be too pleased.

    A lot of fans on twitter have been posting their season tickets back through the door at the hawthorns, they ****ing hate their chairman. West Brom are doomed for me, they've got no money to spend and have made him their manager..... and I thought we had it rough.

    What about DI Canio - Sunderland.
    David Moyes - Man U.
    Felix Magath - Fulham.
    Garry Monk - Swansea.

    All of those were strange appointments to me.

    I wouldn't class these in the same category:

    Di Canio: strange politics but did a pretty good job at Swindon and was a high profile player so somebody was going to gamble on him.

    Moyes: would be a good appointment at a mid table championship team but came with a pedigree of sorts and was SAF's recommendation.

    Magath: has a good record abroad.

    Monk: internal appointment made to steady the ship short term. It worked so he deserved to be given longer.

    Irvine was cack at the dee dars in the league below, he has no pedigree to speak of and he isn't high profile. Other than being the cheapest option I see no other reason for him being given the job.

    He'll probably prove me completely wrong now.

    I would class them as strange though:

    DI Canio - Yes good record at Swindon - Div 1 team (3 tier) - did that deserve a Prem chance?

    Moyes: man U had the pick of all the managers/players etc. in the planet. Mourinho was available, Pep Guardiola was available - they could have picked anyone. they "chose" David Moyes. Did a good job with "limited" (for a PL team) funds. When money available what did he do - buy Marouane Fellaini
    for a ridiculous price.

    Magath - Yes good record abroad - no experience knowledge of England/PL.

    Monk - No managerial experience - going for the easy option. Smacks of the Flitcroft eqiuvalent? Good few months - give him teh job.

    Anyway - all seem strange to me.

    I don't disagree with you, none of them were appointments that I would have made but there is at least a modicum of logic in the madness. I can't find any in the appointment of Irvine.

    Bear in mind that West Brom stick very closely to the idea that their manager should just be a head coach. I wouldn't be surprised if almost all of the decisions are taken higher up - perhaps Irvine's just the best man for the everyday coaching of the team.

    I thought Brian Laws to Burnley was strange at the time. Seems these strange appointments are ex Wednesday managers. Dave Jones for the next Premier League vacancy then.
