been told he can leave Ipswich. Ignoring his previous club history, I'd say he's exactly the type of player we need on the left of our midfield.

No, no, no, you've got it all wrong

Left footed players who can do a job for us either in midfield or full back are an urban myth. They simply don't exist. Right footed players are the way forward. It makes you wonder why all clubs don't do it(!)

There are a lot of clubs that do it.

I was watching the U-tube stuff on Glavin the other week and all the clips showed Barraclough playing on the left and he looked decidedly right footed. I was nowt but a whipper snapper so I can't remeber for sure though.

Then Everton with Piennaar. England with Joe Cole. Man Utd with Ronaldo. Villa with Young. I know there are examples of the opposite, Boro with Downing.

It's a fairly common theme though with right footers playing on the left I guess there just aren't enough good lefties to go around.

The big problem with Barra though

was that he always had to check back on to his right foot. He'd beat a man but couldn't get the cross in because it was on his left, so he had to check back and beat him again. It was a problem then just as it is now. We'd be a better team with naturally left footed players playing on the left. It's an area I wish Simon Davey would address, but unfortunately I don't think he sees it as a problem.

All I'm saying is that we are not the only ones. If Davey gets it wrong he's in good company.
