Apparently, it would be a 'disaster' if Newcastle got relegated and their fans 'don't deserve that'. Why don't the poncy journalists put that dour, tedious, smug looking, cliche ridden geordie on the spot and ask Shearer which fans do deserve relegation then and why?

Well, for starters, he could try and give some tangible reason as to why their fans are so great (I remember a few years back in the old Div 2, they struggled to get 15,000 at times). I know its all PR on his behalf but for me, he typifies the massively over inflated opinion of the Newcastle public and where they laughingly perceive themsleves to be in the football hierarchy.

I heard that interview too and thought exactly the same thing. Not only do the super Geordie fans not deserve relegation, Newcastle, that giant amongst clubs, dont deserve the championship. I used to like Newcastle but I fecking hate them now and I am praying they are relegated. I'm sick of hearing about how they are a big club and what great fans they have. Fecking B*ll*cks, they have won nothing for years and they are a one club city so their support is no great shakes. I remember them being watched by 11,000. Fecking great support!! (wnkr)

Big club in Newcastle maybe but nowhere else. How do you make them a big club? Trophies won? European football? History and tradition? They have none of these and their massive support is only recent, like many people remember they were being watched by 11 - 15,000 not too long ago.

What he says is that "the club don't deserve to get relegated". Obviously though, if they finish in the bottom 3 then they do so on their form over a whole season, and therefore DO deserve to be relegated - what other way is there of looking at it Alan?

I hope very much that they do - I love it when big clubs fall on their arse - small town envy, as my mate calls it

Why?

Why is it that because a club has MORE fans that equates to them having BETTER fans and that they deserve more than other fans?
A Newcastle fan that travels all over the country to watch his team is no better or greater a fan than a Barnsley fan that travels all over or a Hartlepool fan or any other football fan....just because they happen to have more of them does not make their fans any more or less deserving.

 

My respect for a football fan is inversely proportionate to the sucess of the club

... so to me the fan of Exeter who follows his club to Darlington is at the opposite end of the scale to a Man Utd fan who only goes to Old Trafford.</p>

Actually the Exeter fan would br a nutter to travel all that distance to watch crap ! </p>
