So

We want to keep the player, but we want West Brom to pay his wages. How much money has helped us earn? £1 million? More? Can't get my ******* breath.

    This beggars belief.

Surely there's more involved than just the wages thing??! His wages should be paid from the FA Cup proceeds to date, which, let's be honest are pretty much down to him and his display at Anfield. If this is genuinely the only reason he's going back, we're an absolute bloody laughing stock.

You got love this club they pay £400000 for someone we send back to peru to aclimatise ready for next year but won't pay wages for a keeper who has helped us get into the semi final of the fa cup and actually wants to be at the club.

    According to the star....

BARNSLEY boss Simon Davey will bring in another keeper if the loan deal for Luke Steele is not extended in the next 24 hours.
The 23-year-old was due back at West Brom today, having played his last game for Barnsley on Saturday under a one month loan agreement.

Said Davey: "There's no problem with his wages, we want to take him on loan.

"He wants to stay, he's done very well since he's been with us. He's played in the fifth round and quarter -final of the FA Cup. He wants to play in the semi-final and wants to play in the final.

"The ball is out of our court. We want to take the player until the end of the season.

"If it's not sorted out by today or tomorrow, I'll go and get another keeper. He goes back to West Brom until we can get something sorted.

"My job is to manage Barnsley Football Club and we play Sheffield United on Saturday. If I don't get Luke Steele, I'll go and get another keeper."

Reports before the weekend claimed West Brom had stipulated that Steele could stay at Oakwell, if Barnsley paid his wages and agreed to take him as a free transfer next season.

Davey insisted there was no problem over his salary.

He added: "You can't take players on permanent deals, it's out of the transfer window.

"You can only have emergency loans and we want him on an emergency loan. His contract is not up in the summer."

Saturday's 2-0 defeat at Crystal Palace was Barnsley's 12th away from home in the Championship.

Bobby Hassell missed the game injured and Jamal Campbell-Tyce and Diego Leon were dropped to the bench.

Sam Togwell and Istvan Ferenczi started while Marciano van Homoet was back, recovered from injury.

    From that then

It seems to be the stipulation to sign him in the summer.

Well, Muller's not back until the Autumn and Steele's a better keeper imho, so again, all things being comsidered, I'd agree to it.

I personally don't believe tha report.

No problem with wages my arse.

its the ONLY thing that can be wrong.

Free transfer at end of season, player wants to be here, what else can it go down as.

I personally believe Davey has been given that statement to read out.

Statements of that nature should could from the board, not manager.

    feckin cheapskates.

a 'keeper who has not only earned the club thousands and thousands with his heoics, and then the club say we will invest some of the proceeds into the west stand, but **** it, let the keeper go and we will kick him in the teeth.

what a load of fecking B*ll*cks

after being so proud of the club the last few weeks, I now see two reports

this one, and the other in the Sunday mirror about the club being the only ones in the last four wanting no concessions, now makes me absolutley angry and embarrased to be a ST holder at the club.

    you set of cheap *****

    someone is telling porkies

WBA are saying we won't pay his wages

Davey is saying there is no problem with wages

£8k per week for a two month loan would cost us £64k though.

Worth it or not? I would say yes - getting an inferior keeper at this stage of the season could be a disaster.

Third choice on 8k at WBA?

he would certainly be one of our highest paid if we were to pay him that.

    RE: From that then

It doesn't make sense to me. If his wages in the summer are acceptable, just pay the 8k a week until then. He has already made far more than that for us. And we get a top keeper on a free in the summer. He will be worth loads in a couple of years if he can keep up his current form. Only issue would be his long term wages, but the dispute seems to be between the clubs, not him so that seems unlikely.

    RE: From that then

Big contradiction in what Mowbray and Davey are saying. It might be his wages that are the problem were we to keep him permanently, but DeSilva, Macken and Nyatanga have all dropped from Prem to us so we must be able to sort wages out at decent levels.

Just hope they sort it asap.

    lets say for example....

his wages are 8k per week and WBA want that to the end of the season..fine.

WBA say OK you can have him on loan for the rest of the season and for free if only if you can agree personal terms for a permanant deal and we have to sign some sort of pre-contract agreement.

Steele's personal terms for a permanant contract are in excess of what we are willing to pay?

Just an aif baked theory like..

New West Stand my arse ........

If theyr'e having trouble stumping up cash for a keeprs wages for a couple of months, they ain't going to build a new stand. Unless theyr'e going to get the ST holders to build it ??

Who is this stand going to seat anyway ? All the fans that won't be going back next year ?

Surely Steele has a say in this

Train at WBA and watch two FA Cup semis on the telly getting paid £8k per week. Or take a drop so that Barnsley and WBA meet in the middle and then play at Wembley in an FA Cup Semi Final ?
C'mon Luke - feel the force

That sounds entirely reasonable to me.

I don't think the club would bother about he wages to the end of the season.

But if we are going to smash the wage structure to sign him, then I agree with what the club has done.

I would love to see Steele keep the jersey, but if his demands are too high, then we must look further afield.
