What's everyone's opinion on him then? I was really excited by this signing. It wasn't so long ago he was being linked with Chelsea, Liverpool etc...

My Leeds supporting mate said that he looked to have fell out of love with the game, and I can sort of see why he said that. I'm sure our staff can get the very best out of him. My only concern being that he doesn't really do much moving around, he seems glued to the center and I imagine Hecky will want to kick that out of him soon as a team like ours can't carry a player like that.

The Leeds fans who came onto Tykesmad at the time tried to play it down, and said that while they were disappointed to see him go, they mentioned his faults and said we havent got that great a player to be honest.
Some of our fans said he was another Dale Jennings and that was very harsh, I thought give the kid a chance before saying that. And yet again this comes back to Hecky not having a settled idea on squads and formations, so we surely havent seen what Mowatt is capable of.
I hope he is better than what we've seen so far but Im worried about his attitude at the moment as he seems to be disinterested.

To date he has not been fast enough in thought or movement.

I think we're stuck with his lack of pace.

Butterfield was no Bolt. So speed is not absolutely everything. But he is a better player than Mowatt, imo. (Butterfield. Not Bolt)

Anyway if we can plug a Moncur into our system, then we ought to be able to do summat with Mowatt. He needs to be given a proper chance.

Agree with that mate, my Leeds mate said if we can get him to buy into what we are trying to do then we have a 5 million quid player on our books but his concern was that he is a Leeds fan through and through, and that now he's left the club he loved that he just wouldn't be interested.

Pains me to say it but so far everything my mate said is right. On the bright side it's still early in his time with us and with a full pre season he could be a completely different player.

ps Darfield - I did edit the bit out where I referred to him as Jennings again, but not quickly enough lol. (that was my mistake)
Lets give him the chance of a full pre season, and see if Hecky's plans for the following season suit him and if he can get him into shape both physically and mentally.
I think its hard at the moment to fully judge our squad because of the uncertainty and constant chopping and changing, so Im trying not to over react on Mowatt.

Trust Hecky without question, but I haven't seen a single moment from Mowatt that suggests he's anywhere near good enough for us. Completely invisible in every game I've seen.

Working in Leeds surrounded by them and after hearing their thoughts. I thought how's he fit into our side, too slow.

    Let's see next season.

I think there's something there and with a good pre season, hopefully he can have a strong year next season.

We've all seen what both Mowatt AND Moncur were capable of before they joined us, though so far, both have only been used to plug gaps (including quite a large one left by Conor).
It seems fitness is very high on our training agenda so like others have said, a full pre-season and a bit of time with the squad and coaches, subscribe to Hecky's way of playing and we may yet have two midfield diamonds.

The only comment I've really got about Mowatt is how slow he is! I can't remember which game it was now, at home not long ago, he picked up the ball near the halfway line with space to turn and run. He turned, and looked for the whole world like he was running, cartoon legs moving and everything, but he just wasn't going anywhere! All I could think at the time was that if Kent had been him instead he'd have been in the penalty box before Mowatt had moved 2 yards.

prepared to give him time but you can't greatly improve pace when you reach a certain level of fitness. Wasn't impressed by his signing but I'm more than happy to be proved wrong.

Mowatt is a work in progress, but that is what our club is all about. He needs time, a lot of time with our coaches because he has some fundamental problems in his game. He is probably too small and too light weight to ever hold his own in a central two, and that is not something the coaches can do anything about, so I see him being played as an attacking midfield player in a three. The coaches will be working on making him less left sided. That is not just that he kicks with his left foot, it sis that he likes to receive the ball to his left, have his first touch with his left, turn with the ball on his left, as well as the obvious kick, pass, shoot tackle with his left. He just looks very unbalanced at the minute, and these are basic skills that will improve him. There is no argument that until he improves his basics, he cannot improve the rest of his game.

He reminds me of Goran Lovre, decent when he's on the ball but looks a yard off the pace.

The only time I've been impressed with him was the 30 minutes before he got sent off on his debut. The bit of play before he nearly scored was quality, I was thinking we'd signed a right player but it's gone the other way so far

If a guy who's been in professional football a number of years, played lots of championship football etc is a work in progress we are screwed. Nobody we sign from the same league as us should be refered to like that.

At first I was excited at this signing as I thought he was highly thought of at Leeds.
He was indeed highly thought of when he first broke through into the first team, a few years ago, since then he never really knuckled down, despite the odd moments of quality over the few years he was in the first team set up.
My Leeds friend said we were welcome to him, i hoped he would prove him wrong, but thus far he hasn't, he has looked a yard off the pace every time I have seen him, and he doesn't really seem to have established his favoured position. Useless on the wing, and ineffective behind the striker. Hopefully with a good pre season under his belt we see the best of him next season, but in the meantime I would still like to see us bring in a Hourihane/James replacement.

I thought he was a good signing as well at first and I hoped those type of comments were just bitterness from the Leeds fans. Hecky hasnt done himself or the players many favours by constantly making changes since January, and nobody seems to know what their best position is at the moment as we dont seem to have a settled favoured formation.
A lot is going to depend on the upcoming pre season and players like Mowatt really are going to have to step up and prove themselves.

In fairness to Hecky the spine of his side was sold underneath him. It was always going to be difficult to find a new winning formula in such a short space of time with no real replacements. Let's get the season out of the way and build from scratch this summer as there is going to be a big turnover in players.

Lots of ability. Limitations on pace etc.

Lost his way, needs a preseason to show his worth as he's nowhere near on the ice or the same fitness levels

Looks a decent player to me. The nearest equivalent I can think of would be McPhail. Give him time.
