BARNSLEY boss Andy Ritchie has exclusively confirmed that he is interested in <place w:st="on" />Brighton</place /> and Hove Albion striker Colin Kazim-Richards.Speaking to www.barnsleyfc.co.uk, Andy said: "We are interested in Colin and have made an enquiry to <place w:st="on" />Brighton</place />. That is as far as it has gone at the moment although things are still ongoing". 15/8 

BARNSLEY Chairman Gordon Shepherd has revealed the Reds are interesting in signing the 'Coca Cola Kid' - Colin Kazim-Richards, according to BBC Radio Sheffield.Kazim-Richards arrived at <place w:st="on" />Brighton</place /> and Hove Albion from Bury during the summer of 2005 in a blaze of publicity after the Seagulls scooped £250,000 in Coca Cola's Win A Player promotion during the previous campaign.

The 19-year-old started his career at Gigg Lane, making 31 appearances and hitting three goals after breaking through into the first team during the 2004/2005 season. After joining <place w:st="on" />Brighton</place /> last summer, Kazim-Richards netted six goals in 47 first team games in all competitions. He has turned out once for the Seagulls in League One this term.

Speaking to BBC Radio Sheffield, Mr Shepherd said: "Andy (Ritchie) came to me and asked about him and told me about him, and said 'look there's a chance we could get this man out' and came along with the chief scout Martin Wilkinson.

"He's lightning fast - we're not sure of the price being asked - but I would have thought £100,000, £125,000." 15/8



<place w:st="on" />BARNSLEY</place /> boss Andy Ritchie believes goalkeeper Vito Mannone will be challenging for the first team during his three month loan spell at the Club when the Italian youngster finalises his switch from Premiership giants Arsenal today.

Speaking to the Sheffield Star, Andy said: "Vito will come to us for a while to see how he likes us and we like him but we're assured he is capable of going straight into the first team if necessary."He's got good experience down there and played a couple of games, which is exactly what we need. We're setting our sights as high as we can within our budget".

Andy also confirmed that the Reds look to have missed out on signing another young Gunner, Arturo Lupoli. He added: "We initially heard about him (Vito Mannone) when we enquired about Arturo Lupoli, the striker.

"He's gone to <place w:st="on" /><city w:st="on" />Derby</city /></place /> because he has a mate there but it goes to show we are serious about achieving." 18/8

BARNSLEY boss Andy Ritchie missed out on signing Sheffield United defender Chris Luketti earlier this week after revealing the player turned down the chance to move to Oakwell on loan.Andy has spent the last few days hoping to bring in quality additions to his squad without success and said this afternoon: "We got very close to one player and were given permission to speak with him but he did not want to come out on loan at this time. It is very close to the transfer window and we have had knockbacks because both clubs and players want to wait until January with a view to permanent moves rather than loans.



"That is no good to us at the moment and we missed out on a couple of centre halves and two centre forwards. We are very frustrated at the moment. The search will continue next week and we have made some other phone calls that could lead to something after the weekend.

"We tried to get Chris Luketti from Sheffield United and were told that he does not want to come out at the moment. We need an experienced player like that and we tried to get him here in the summer but could not match his financial demands. That is another problem we face as well.

"We look at every player and every deal on their merits but sometimes it is just out of our budget. That was the case with Luketti in the summer and we tried again yesterday but he did not want to come out on loan.

"We are not stacked with cash but the board have told me that each deal will be looked at on its merits and if we need to maybe go for a transfer fee in the January window then there could be money available. That is how it is here - we look at each deal on its merits and if everything points to us bringing him in then we will endeavour to do so.

"After Wednesday night I think we really need someone who can score goals but we also need someone with the experience to be there for 90 minutes". 3/11
