Be proud of Rolls-Royce, as much of the increase is export-led. Strong sales growth was reported across the globe, with notable results seen in Asia Pacific (up 47%), North America (up 17%) and the Middle East (up 23%). China and the United States were the most significant individual markets for Rolls-Royce.
It's an interesting debate. It does provide a relatively small number of manufacturing jobs but the lions share of profits will dissapear abroad. And if the home country needed it, the labour would be taken away.
I think it's very unlikely that BMW would shift RR production to Germany, what with British heritage etc. Also remember that we have Nissans at Sunderland, Toyotas at Derby and Hondas at Swindon, all employing thousands of British workers. Not British parent companies granted, all Japanese, but there must also be spin-offs with British component suppliers to these firms.
