"If the extra £150k that Walsall wanted for Bradshaw was considered "beyond value" I think you'll find its a drop I the ocean compared to the cost of relegation." I wonder if they actually think he would have signed for them anyway??
They've got caught up in a downward spiral similar to ours when we last in the Champ. Regular changes of managers resulting in massive squad overhauls every year, involving the recruitment of players who are journeyman pros will little value, untied youngsters and players from Prem clubs who think they are better than they are. In the case of Evans, he overhauled the squad every year, getting rid of all the players he had brought 12 months previously! Relegation looks on the cards, which might ultimately benefit them in the way it has clearly benefitted us. The chairman has worked wonders but he is no billionaire and I fear for them as a club I quite like. It all goes to prove how difficult it is for clubs like ours to maintain Champ status. Hopefully we have found a way now and Rotherham need to follow our example if the are to succeed.
If Rotherham want to do owt they've got to try and do the same as us - not gonna lie there's a lot of fluke involved in it to drop on so many signings that have "worked", but we'll never go back to doing what we did last time, experienced 'named' players after a last payday, what a stupid strategy that was with hingsight?
I listened to the Tony Stewart interview earlier, and it was underwhelming to say the least. Fair play to the chap for getting them as far as he has, but the step into the championship came far too quick for me. They were still largely a league 2 side on the crest of a wave, and have never really got the players through the door to aid the transition. He largely spoke about how he wasn't disappointed with the start or the performances on the pitch. He showed his displeasure at the circus that is the deadline day and spoke of how clubs like Rotherham are always the losers on days like yesterday. It felt a little like he was preparing for relegation, and that this season was one too far. He spoke of how he has full confidence in Alan Stubbs and that he is the long term head coach. It was a really underwhelming outing from Tony, but in all honesty, he really is trying, and there's little more that he can say or do. Rotherham really are the little fish in the Championship. As we were for all those years last time. I'm grateful for the transition this club has gone through over the last few years. From the dark days in the championship where we were happy to win 10 or so home games a season, to being this exciting proposition that we are at present. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
Whatever happened to, Neil "give me what I demand or I'm off, cos clubs are lining up for me" Warnock?
Promotion can never come too quickly regardless of who you are or where you are - you have to grasp the opportunity. Bourne, outs went from a third tier club with gates of 5,000 to a Premiership club in three years. They seem to be doing ok on it.
Bournemouth have cash behind them though. Rotherham went from being a 4th tier club to a 2nd tier club with a modest budget practically overnight. I got the impression from Tony Stewart that part of the problem is attracting players. Bournemouth were able to do that with cash. The majority of the signings they made last season were free agents outside of the transfer window. It appears to be their route this time too (more by force than choice). But the only way clubs like Rotherham (and ourselves) can equip themselves to compete in the Championship is by actually being in it - having more brass, better profile and being a more appealing prospect for a higher standard of player. Otherwise, if you're not careful you spend too long languishing in the third tier, preparing for the championship but never actually getting there.
Thanks man. I have a few friends and family who are Millers fans and I'm feeling their pain from past experience.
I too listened to Tony Stewart. The defeat to us in the manner in which it happened hurt him badly. You could hear this in his voice. He kept referring to it and at times had to check himself not to get too personal. Most of his interview was about attempting to defend the bad start and the supposed 'long term plan' he said was currently in place. He was like a dying man clutching at straws. I personally felt really sorry for him. Judging by the responses from the Millers who responded to his interview, he failed to convince.
