...with respect to the posters on here you need to look at the bigger picture.
It is not really about BFC. A poster on here said that season tickest are "great value". However that is only in the context of other football clubs. The main problem is that football has become overhyped and massively overpriced in comparison to the many alternative options for entertainment, most of which did not exists a decade or more ago.

Combine low employment, wage freezes/cuts, inflation, uncertainty over the future, then obviously football attendances are suffering. The fact that footballers wages are so far removed from the average working man's. Many people are disillusioned and resent paying high ticket costs for what is a very inconsistent quality wise product where 80%
plus of the revenue ends up in the pockets of what in many cases are journeymen with limited talent plying their trade.
It is not a case of envy but a simple fact i.e. years ago only players who could draw people through the gate would command high wages...e.g. the George Bests, Denis Laws and Peles of this world. Nowadays every Tom **** and Harry earns telephone number wages and what is more many of them demonstrate a total lack of professionalism and contempt for the people i.e. the fans who pay their wages. Do NOT compare it to other fields of entertainment. Actors on TV, Stage and Film only command wages based on their box office drawing power. If that goes down so do their wages.

Also let us clear one thing up. A fan is a fan whether they pay through the turnstyles or watch on Pay-per-view or Free-to -air as without high viewing rates Sky etc would not put as much money into football. £30 £20 or even £15 for a ticket is too expensive an outlay on a regular basis for most people to watch 90 minutes of what is often very mediocre 'entertainment'.

The solid fan base have made their choice and the 'stay aways' have made theirs and it is no good bemoaning the fact. Football will go into decline unless players wages are drastically cut and I dont mean 5-10% but a major shakeup. Hopefully the new rules regarding wages as a proportion of turnover will help but I suspect it will polarise football even more so we and up with a handfull of 'superclubs' whilst the rest wither on the vine.

BFC cannot do anything unilaterally other than 'tinker round the edges' so it is no good blaming them. Football needs a drastic restructuring if it is to survive and it is no good looking to the Media e.g. SKY to represent football's best interest. Fans are voting with their feet.

how do you know what players earn

    hmmmm hmmmm you dont.
the people you say are the top 1% and like anything else they will earn a lot but thats like any job sector.

if you look at the likes of butterfield, hes a lot of talent and wont be earning mega money.

You are an idiot. Look around the carpark at the next home game and then look around the players carpark. Then try to tell me that players wages are not out of touch with the average working mans. And lets remember that these are average footballers at best. Many of whom were playing in the third and fourth tiers just a few montgs ago.

Something certainly needs to be done with regards wage cap. The FSF are trying to do something abou this but won't suceeed unless they can get more backing from the ordinary fan to exert pressure on there own clubs.

I would bet that most of the first term earn more in a month than I earn in a year and I earn above average wage and worked through uni and 15 years of experience in my field. If I lose my job tomorrow I will have to find another, or retrain in a different field, or live on benefits. Why should a 35 year old footballer be able to retire and never have to lift a finger again? It will take me nearly 8-9 years to earn the £300K that some players are reputed to get *every week*.

So, reward the top players. But with a sensible amount of money. £10-20k a month is a significant amount of money and not many people on here would turn their noses up as it. Not too many things in this country that you couldn't do with that. That should be an absolute maximum for anyone in the country....

What does anyone else thinks the wage cap should be for players?

    What a great shame...

that a well thought out post like that is met with the juvenile dross that Hemsworth comes out with. It's embarrassing.

I agree with so many of your points but I disagree with your conclusion. I think Barnsley FC can do more than tinker around the edges. The price structure this season is all about balancing the books in the short term, but does not look at the long term future of the club.

The fact is that the prices are driving people away and without the fans the club does not have a long term future.

I think it's still possible to survive in this league without alienating the supporters. Season tickets that average out at about £13 per game may not be cheap but they are affordable. The average punter weighs up that sort of price and thinks it's not bad for an afternoon's entertainment. It's not the sort of money that will turn people away from the club for good. But £30 is. £30 is the kind of money that will stop people ever going to Barnsley football club again. They'll just switch off and never come back even if we start doing well. We can't afford for that to happen.

I'm not dismissing your points about the state of football or the ludicrous amounts players are paid, but I do think our football club can do more within the system they have to operate. Cutting match day prices by a third would be a start.

So what you are saying is if you have a nice car you must be a millionaire?

    That's rubbish.

When i next meet family on sunday i will see a brand new merc (not a cheap one either)and i will also see a year old 4x4 ect should i think theres a millionaire about?
because there isn't. There will be no one there who earns more than 2k a week FACT.

Also before you go on another crazy misguided rant why not talk about football league teams.

I bet Plymouth all drive around in nice cars not.

theres 1,000's of footballers in England and Wales that play pro football but you judge them all on 1% BRILLIANT

    Im with Jay on this.
What has happened in this thread is what I would imagine it would be like if myself and a handful of other adult/intelligent supporters were sat in a pub or what have you, discussing a football topic only for some kid to come in and start telling said adults of intelligence that theyre all wrong and he knows better... how to kill a discussion - by Phil from Hemsworth.

If you really believe this then you are completely deluded. Average squad players will be on more than this.

No whitey they are talking Rubbish.

People on here are amusing wrongly.

I've read that post 3 times and hes wrongly focusing in on 1% and then saying that covers 100%.

Average wage per player in league twos about 50/60 thousand, spl apart from Glasgow giants is 52,000 according to Mr Strachan.
Blue square conference will be less.

Do you read Sunday Mirror? There was a feature in there about the clueless who just concentrate on tevez and start saying they earn this that and other.

He in there says there are players in LEAGUE 1 that do other jobs because they don't earn enough.

Read it again, i was not talking about Footballers i was talking about family members and saying that you can have nice car/s without been a millionaire.

Theres someone in this discussion who owns a x5 which is a nice car doesn't mean he earns millions are whatever.
