Are we going over the top? Yet another two (no doubt worthy) fellers commemorated before the England game today. TBH that was probably the highlight of the game. But it seems that not a game passes by these days without the same tribute to somebody or other, whether you're watching on TV or at a live game. I don't want to be disrespectful, but sometimes at Oakwell I've seen folks looking puzzled and saying "who?". And I can't help but wonder whether there isn't a "I'm more worthy than you" thing going on in the rush to pay respects in this way - even if the folk applauding never knew the poor departed soul. For the avoidance of doubt, I don't require such a tribute when I'm gone (which may not be long, considering my lifestyle) whether that be on minute 16 or 64.
Me personally I'm happy to do it for whoever...if me clapping for 60 seconds can give his/her loved 1's a bit of happiness at such a sad time then I'd do it every game! Call me a soppy arse but when I do clap even when I don't know them I get a bit of a lump in my throat...I'd like to think that if I passed away my fellow fans would clap for me......
