makes me wonder how old most of our posters are, and are they really old enough to remember, or is it summat picked up frome their forbares, its 24 years ago ffs, let it go
I remember during the strike an old collier being asked on look north if we would talk to the men that had crossed the picket lines during the strike, " I cant see that said this old guy, were still not talking the the ones that scabbed in 1926 yet" (kissmyass)
I think that those that hate people from nottingham so much for striking are VERY selfish Just how selfish can you get to try to FORCE a man to basically quit his job and make his family go hungry for YOUR benefit.
yes, i too wonder how old folk are because anyone who was affected by the strike will call them scabs until they stop drawing breath. Anyone who says let it go, were either not affected or not born.
Im not saying let it go because theres nothing for me to let go as i werent around then. I just dont see the point in using it as an excuse to be abusive to people during a football match.
"Anyone who says let it go, were either not affected or not born" What an absolute crock of *****. You're not being serious are you? (lol)
quick question Imagine a miner in nottingham with a wife and three young children to feed and provide for. Do you believe that he had a good reason for deciding not to walk out on his job? Or should HIS circumstances not come into it?
RE: I think that those that hate people from nottingham so much for striking are VERY selfish I take it you mean for not striking, the reason they didn't strike is because they were promised that their jobs would be safe, that their pits would be saved and only pits in yorkshire and other militant area's would be closed, in 1993 when the axe fell on notts pits it was too late.
will proberly go to 124 yrs! they're community helped **** up ours, cant just say it fecked up people then, 24 years ago, the knock on effect went on for years n years after, we always have....and will ridicule notts for their actions, as time goes by, like today when even they called themselves scabs will it be less significant. do you love beating the germans n argies at footy better than anyone else?? i'd guess yes, and why? history!
whilst all minors tried to unite against that bitch who tore yorkshire to pieces, the good old folk in notts, went against all and went to work.
Oh yeah sorry, for not striking. but that means that they did have a very good reason for not striking, they were trying to save their jobs and provide for their families. its a bit selfish to expect them to give that up isnt it?
RE: quick question Supertyke.............ask yourself this...........is the notts miner still working as a miner..............more importantly is his son?..............i thought not.............lets buy cheap electricity from france......................for how long...............economic suicide............
cos i don't think its worth answering. Especially as most of this area had the same family's and kids etc. Obviously you weren't affected
no, you don't answer it because you know that if you answered it truthfully then you would have to admit that they did what they thought was best
In order to defeat the miners or at least to make it easier to defeat the miners and therefore the unions, Thatcher or to be more correct the architect of the strike Nicholas Ridley had to be a bit more clever than the previous tory administration led by Edward Heath who were brought down by the miners. The tactic they used was divide and rule, basically they promised the notts miners that they would be looked after with better wages and secure employment if they were prepared to sacrifice coal mining jobs in yorkshire and other area's. They were patsy's they took Thatcxhers pieces of silver and sold out their brothers in Yorkshire, you may say good luck to them, you may admire them their good fortune and cunning at making a pact with the conservative government, who's to say they were wrong. Yorkshire and other miners took a different stand we stood and fought for 12 months, in the end we did not win, Thatcher and her cronies south of the border were triumphant. Within 10 years of the end of the strike all Barnsley pits were closed, but at least Notts area also lost many pits, thats one consillation.
