I'm all for having an English manager Dunt think it'll make us win though. We simply haven't got good enough players. Nowhere near good enough. International football is country against country and I think that should include the manager as well as the players. I don't think it will make us a better team, but I do think it's the right thing to do. Having watched Capello at work, I don't think it will make us a worse team either like.
Re: I'm all for having an English manager The switch of national managers being from outside that country is just another extention of teh globalisation of foootball - in the grand scheme of things to me anyway it doesn't matter. What I can't fathom is the press and former players who seem to think that purely be installing an English manager then we get that 'bulldog spirit' which will get us to a major final. Ignoring totally the dearth of true world class quality in the English game. What we actually need is someone who can get a bit extra out of the best English players, who understands how to win a group competitin and then who can handle the demands of a tournament. Unfortunately again, as with last night - certain players are tried and written off after one game. Collectively we just will not allow the England manager to use friendlies to try new players or formations because if we lose then it's the end of civilisation as we know it and the manager and players are pilloried. As with most things we get what we deserve.
Re: I'm all for having an English manager Stuart Pearce made a big deal of the fact that expectation levels are low and that will work to our advantage in the Summer. However, as per usual the team display and individual performances were analysed to the nth degree by the press and many journalists appear to think that losing 3-2 to arguably the second best side in the world playing a bunch predominantly untested youngsters was a poor showing. Sorry Stuart lad, I'm afraid expectation levels will always be high because we're England innit. For what it's worth, on paper I thought that was weak an England side as I can remember. And as a performance and results go I thought it was reasonable. The vast majority of the 'golden generation' have departed and for what they lack in quality, players like Millner, Richards, Sturridge, Welbeck, Parker make up for in tenacity and bottle. When it comes to the World Cup I expect to just about fight our way through the group then possibly fall short in the quarters against a better side and I wouldn't be too devastated if that was the case. Then again, I'd have been happy with Barnsley staying up this season so perhaps I've low expectations.
Re: I'm all for having an English manager Agreed. The manager of the national team should be from that country. However like Jay says it wont make us better.
Agreed that it's not a really important issue I'd just prefer it that way. But not to the point that it will make me mardy if we don't appoint an English manager. Personally I think Harry Redknapp would be a good appointment. For one thing I think he's a nice bloke and gives a good interview, so even if the team are struggling at least Harry will be value for money. Flip side to that is I'd hate to see him ****** over in the press. Whoever takes over, English or not, they've got a hell of a job on because we simply don't produce the players to beat the best sides in the world.
Re: I'm all for having an English manager I have an extremely realistic opinion of Hemsworth Tykes posts.
