Surely that's a credit to Davey then, keeping us up with the donkeys that Ritchie had bought? They were Ritchie's players but we were only heading in one direction with him in charge, at the time he was sacked. Under VIv Anderson we nearly went down. The next season under Wilson we finished comfortably, with the only new addition that first season being an old centre back. I can't remember whether it was Shirtliff or Shotton. So by the same reckoning it was nothing to do with Wilson then, because he only kept us up with Anderson's players. Nonsense.
No we didn't Steve Davis was signed by Mel Machin at the same time as Charlie Bishop, John Pearson, Lee Butler, Deniol Graham and Gareth Williams. Summer of '91.
Wilson didn't sign anyone in that first season Although he did bring Sheridan, Bullock and Moses into the side. What he did was turn them into a bloody good side using tactics and man management. Whatever happened to those? I loved Wilson's first season in charge. We were excellent. *edit* Chris Jackson got a few games too.
That first season of Wilson's Silk purse/sows ear scenario.
Remember hearing him bollock Gerry Taggart rigid whilst player manager. Managerial.

Maybe Davey should stick to managing other people's signings then cos he's absolutely, *******, w4nk at managing his own.
