They qualified from a group which contained Germany, Portugal and Ghana. We finished bottom of a group which was won by Costa Rica. Nothing's going to change while we perpetuate this myth that we're part of some footballing elite. We've been comprehensively outperformed by pretty much everyone else at this tournament. Pretending we were unlucky and teams like USA are surviving on some kind of superhuman effort alone is hardly going to move us forward.

Really, you think Belgium should have scored 10? And I guess the offside/onside miss at the end of normal time didn't register either?

I'm not saying USA would have been worthy World Cup winners but I think we could tone down the condescension towards them given our current level of performance.

By getting further than us in major tournaments such as the World Cup, perhaps?

From a group containing the teams already mentioned. Remind me, how many games did we win in order to be able to adopt such a superior attitude?

We'd have had 4 points and not gone through, surely?

Only because they qualified for the second round - they have a zero GD for the first round and we have -2.

italy and germany not much between them. portugal arent very good these days. are portugal any better than uruguay. i think the groups are pretty even. I just dont rate the yanks and having watched them in world cup not changes my mind at all. They are very average as are we under this manager

They aren't a good footballing side. They're very well organised & have a brilliant work ethic.

England's biggest issue was that we went with 'Liverpool tactics' & left our worst defence in my lifetime virtually unprotected.

Technically we're a lot better than the Yanks. Most of their players wouldn't make our squad, that's just been honest, but they're the better 'team'.

I agree we do over rate ourselves though but not to the extent you're suggesting.

You look at a player like Jozy Altidore who's been terrible all season for Sunderland but him been out for the USA was a major crisis tonight apparently. Altidore wouldn't get near an England squad if he was English.

Big problem is England play the best players rather than the best team. USA have left Donovan at home, France have left Nasri at home, we ain't got the bottle to do it. I don't know if it's because we've got poor managers or the manager feels pressured by the media but we never do it.

Look at the early 2000's, sticking Scholes on the wing followed by sticking Gerrard on the wing or as a holding midfielder, both times to accommodate Lampard as the central attacking midfielder. Stupid decisions.

Should've found the balls & dropped one of them.

Heskey, Welbeck, Rooney, Vassell all played on the wing.

Ironically when forced by injuries when we played so called 'inferior' players like Butt, Mills & Sinclair in 2002 in their correct positions rather than move others about we actually looked a good side. Certainly better than the next 3 world cups anyway.

English football has lost its entitlement to look down its nose at anyone. We don't always qualify for major tournaments and when we do all we do is make up the numbers until someone brushes us aside. If the FA want England to be seen with respect it has to do something to earn it.

Not sure why people are sticking up for England here. we were Rubbish and out of the 32 teams competing, theres very few I think we could have beaten. So what if USA have got through by working their ****** off for each other. At least they are playing to their strengths and at least they can actually pass the ball more than 3 times before losing it.
