Why are we not doing things like Donny are to try and get the next generation of fans in? BUDDING FOOTBALLERS GET TO WATCH HEROES FOR LESS 'Junior football teams from right across Doncaster were given an early Christmas treat thanks to the local football club. Doncaster Rovers invited all junior football players from across the town to come and watch Saturday's triumphant win against Championship leaders Southampton at a festively reduced entry fee. More than 23 teams bringing a total of 350 footballers, 54 coaches and 68 additional club friends and family watched the game for a discounted price. Shaun Lockwood, head of marketing at Doncaster Rovers said: "Each year we like to invite all the local junior football teams to come and watch a Rovers match, and what a match to come and watch! "Doncaster Rovers is a community club and we wanted to give back to the local residents that support the team both on and off the field time and time again. "After Christmas we'll also be hosting our annual match day tournaments at the Keepmoat Stadium, so hopefully we will see all the teams again soon."
Why don't the club keep us informed of how these schemes are doing? Get some good PR out there, that is what Donny are good at.
Is that a recent thing gally? We have had numerous discussions on this subject in the last and I dont recall that being mentioned
I've heard of tickets being offered to schools with the low take up being given to teachers not being available but haven't heard of Junior Local football teams being offered free tickets
I think thats a recent initiative. The club are also looking at having a sort of guard of honour with a junior football club waving flags when the teams run out. The ST have just ordered the flags.
I think some are taken up. THe club offer free tickets to every school in the area. Often they cant give them away.
Your probably right, I think there's loads of good things that the club do or get involved in the community that many wont hear about.
I'm really surprised. I thought they'd get snapped up. I wonder how much of it is the teachers not being arsed though, and the kids and parents don't know anything about it. . . .
Well I think ]getting the necessary number of supervisors is one of main problems. I guess the current issues in the public sector make this sort of thing even harder to staff at present!
Probably right. I think going down the junior football team route is the best idea. Already interested in football, parents and coaches willing to spend time and money supervising and far more likely to come back. . . .
Surely the club already have links to local junior sides or do we just let other clubs pick off the local talent.
Classing so many games Catagory A in the first place was taking the mickey and the club is paying the price, unlike the stay away supporters ! Sad, as the clubs on a decent run with not many watching. The economic situation isn't getting better any time soon so any money saving ideas the club comes up with have to be supported.
