what the **** were you expecting this season. Promotion on a much reduced Budget???? When Hill came in, lots on here didn't give him a chance. "certain relegation", "wont get out of bottom 3" I wish we still had all those posts from the old board. we have finished higher than most of you expected and had it not been for the board selling Vaz Te, losing Butts then Drinkwater we would have have possibly finished in the top 10. Its not Hills fault we lost those players, I can understand wanting changes at board level but really cant understand anyone who thinks it would do us good to get yet another manger in.
No matter who is in the team I expect us to show that we are trying instead of just going through the motions. I expect that when we lose it's because the other team were better and not down to lack of effort on our part by being negative. I also expect us to have shots on target more often, not lose double figures worth of home games and at least once in a while come from behind to win.
I'm not asking for Hill to be sacked, but I'm getting fed up of the excuse that we lost Vaz Te, Butterfield and Drinkwater. If we'd lost those players and Hill wasn't allowed to bring in anyone to replace them then it would be a valid point. It'd be more than that, it would be an excellent point. But that isn't the case at all. Hill has brought in umpteen players since then. In total this season he has signed over 20 players. We haven't lost three players and had to rely on youths or reserves. We've lost three players and signed many more in their stead. You can't use losing players as an excuse when the team is filled with players that the current manager has signed. It's a nonsense argument.
Spot on Andy, losing players has cost us, I cannot remember us losing so many players for one reason or another in one season, all three goalies at the same time !!!! says it all. Unfortunately some people on here don't, or don't want to, understand the limitations such losses place on a team.
Steele and Preece, who else ? Hill has fetched players in to replace the ones we lost, unfortunately some on here seem to be blind to that fact also!!!
get behind the team... it is a miracle we stayed up... next season who knows do you want sven & some mistery chinese backers?
Re: I'm not asking for Hill to be sacked, but In fairness, those 3 plus Perkins and O'Brien have been missing since late Jan/early Feb - that's an entire midfield to replace, it's not just about replacing it's about getting new players to gel and to pick up where the missing players left off. It's unusual I'd say for any team to lose an entire midfield pretty much in one fell swoop - well over a month or so. That doesn't totally excuse our innate ability to lose once we go behind, the fragility as a defensive unit and the total and utter lack of any real creativity of late. The one saving grace (and I'm trying really really hard to take the positives) is that I'd be pretty sure that Hill knows who is staying from the current squad and think we'll see clues in the next 2 line ups and where he needs to strengthen - so he's got from now to August to sort things which I hope will see an end once and for all of half a side made up of loannees and the loss of key players in the Jan transfer window next season so we can have a relatively settled side throughout. Anyway, imho it's all academic whilst we're run by 2D Don and the invisible man.
Re: I'm not asking for Hill to be sacked, but to be fair he was never going to get the money to fully replace vaz te,butterfield.drinkwater etc he gambled on what bit he'd got and what he could attract to the club and being it in mid season was never gonna be easy.
Re: I'm not asking for Hill to be sacked, but Drinkwater left man u for 1 million Vaz Te has gone on to be one of West hams Best players Butterfield, rated 2M + before getting injured, How the hell can you replace that quality mid season with no cash. Yes we did bring players in but its a bit short sighted to say losing those players is no excuse. The players Hill brought in I feel were building for next season and in no way were they direct replacements for those players (especially vaz te and Butts). Deep down Hill probably thought we were safe and didn't expect such a drastic slump. The injuries to Perkins and Jim didn't help either.
Re: I'm not asking for Hill to be sacked, but Spot on Jay. Can't understand anyone defending Hill's achievements. I have a feeling that come the final league table, it will be clear for all to see that if Portsmouth hadn't gone into administration, we would be playing Hudds next year. I don't have any hope for nest season whilst he's in charge and to make it worse I wouldn't trust him with any transfer budget, regardless of just how much we have to spend, he will waste it.
Re: I'm not asking for Hill to be sacked, but Because we were really awful up to Xmas weren't we. His signings were just shocking. FFS
In fairness I'm not being very fair. I know I'm not, but I'm very, very pissed off. And if some of us aren't showing any patience then Hill has only got himself to blame. He spent the first 6 months of his tenure deliberately acting like a lovely person. He was deliberately antagonistic and saw himself as untouchable because he thought he was a lot better than he actually is. Turns out he's struggling, turns out he not all that, but why should I offer him my support when he's spent most of the season trying to wind me up? Congratulations, he succeeded. Where the **** has that got him, the daft fcuker.
Re: I'm not asking for Hill to be sacked, but We weren't that great up to Christmas. Played in patches. His signings in the main (75% of them) have been bloody awful. It depends where your expectations are. Mine are higher than this.
Re: I'm not asking for Hill to be sacked, but Some of them were poor ! Not all of them have been fantastic mate. Wiseman is a liability in defence, ok going forward, but he cannot defend , McNulty looks Ok in one match , piss poor the next, Edwards!!!!! Cameron Park, why? Nile Ranger, why? Just a few to start with.
Re: I'm not asking for Hill to be sacked, but he brought in one of the best players in the championship that not one other manager would look at, he brought danny drinkwater and made him a better player that other clubs drooled over, he made butts captain and brought his game to attention of other clubs and you don't trust him with a budget .thank **** your not a millionaire with influence on our club
Re: I'm not asking for Hill to be sacked, but Where do those expectation come from though. Thats my point. we have no cash, we cant buy the best players and when we get one, he get's sold. Thats not Hills fault. Having to try to rebuild a squad mid season wasn't Hills fault
