Not so long since Yorkshire played at Middlesborough. Not so daft. Depends on how traditional you are.
In 1968 Middlesbrough became part of the County Borough of Teesside, and in 1974 it became part of the non-metropolitan county of Cleveland until the county's abolition in 1996, when Middlesbrough became a unitary authority. The town now forms part of North Yorkshire for ceremonial purposes only whatever 'ceremonial purposes' means..
It used to be the administrative centre for north riding of Yorkshire many moons ago. A lot of the locals still proclaim to be yorkshire men Brian Clough for one when he was at forrest during TBD miners strike
Tha reight tomf and I will offer you an apology , I was mistaken and I am deeply sorry. Will that do.
Surrounded by Smoggies as I am I can tell you they are deeply insulted to be thought of as part of Yorkshire. Deeply insulted. I'm hoping that when I travel back with them after the game they will have just cause to hate 'Yorkshire' or more specifically 'South Yorkshire' even more than they do.
Tbh I've had the totally opposite response when in their company especially trips to Redcar races. Are you using deoderant:wink:
I'm amazed by that statement. I'm also surrounded by smoggies and they are all Yorkshire to the bone. Been a blight on their lives when they were in Cleveland.
