u still convinced we need his defensive nouse and leadership skills? I was happy to see his name not on the teamsheet as it gave us a chance to see what the team was like without him. Turns out the team was f**king awesome!

I wasnt there how well organised was the defence?

Was it that we were good or just Wolves rubbish?

Also who did the organising - Hassell or Kay

Well Wolves just kicked it long into the corners for most of 2nd half,

    not much organising to do.

Although I suspect Colgan was shouting "Head it" a lot as he didnt seem overly interedted in coming to collect any balls more than a stride off his line.

Bit of both really, defenders were really committed but Wolves could easily have had a few, personally I was a bit worried how many times we tried to mark a man by standing in front of him which if we miss it then obviously leaves them free to peel away and get more space, also still left Wolves players in acres of space at times.Much improved in terms of effort and covering back though,.

RE:Oh, what about those occasions when he was right on the edge of his area

collecting when they had punted the ball long and charged up ?? Colgan was back to good form I recon.

Personally i think it came down to

hard graft and teamwork. We defended from the front. Wingers covered the full backs. Hecky had his best game yet for the Reds (future skipper?). Colgan stayed awake in second half after quiet first to make a couple of quality saves. The other defenders fought for everything. Well done lads

    eh!

I think he only collected one ball that came into the six yard box. He was rooted to his line. He looks like he needs to make a few saves to me.

    Hecky future skipper?

I dont see him as a future left back. Fullback is the only position I think we are not particularly strong at when it comes to the 1st 11.

That Johnson guy was tearing him a new arsehole most of the 2nd half. Fortunately he was from the Devaney school of passing so chose to shoot from impossible positions when a pass was the best option.

    What utter balls.

Reid is better than Hassell as a centre back, and Hassell better than Tonge as a Right Back

Accordingly the defence would only have performed better if Reid had been there. The team worked better as a whole (attacking constantly for the entire first half, for example) than versus Burnley.

Genuine blood & guts players like Reid don't grow on trees, and I hope he knows it's only a very small percentage of fans that talk like you.

    Blood n guts.

Never doubted that but i do doubt his ability to some degree and certainly his organisational skills as a skipper. Funny how much more organised we seemed to be as a team without the captain in the side. First clean sheet without the captain in the side.
I still think we need an experienced strong tall centre back that Kay can learn from. Hassell is fine at centre back against the smaller forwards but against the big men i would prefer him at full back. Reid seems to falter against big strikers and those that turn him with speed.

    RE: Blood n guts.

it can not believe what u am reading!!!

Everyone slating Reid for not playing saying hassle is a better CB than him..utter crap!!

Hassle had a very good game indeed but i reckon if kay did'nt play then we would have had the same result also , then you would be shouting for kay out!!

Have u not thought about what has been happening this week with ritchie getting the new def coach in?
Maybe this was the reason not just cos reid was out of the game.

I'm all for not changing a winning team but the first time tonge gets caught out the slaters will then start the get tonge out campaign asking for hassle to play at RB again.

Personally the only quality hassle has infront of Reid is speed other than that reid and kay all the way unless ritchie signs a better CB then put hassle back at CB.

Personally would like to see a 3 man def at times with hassle sweeping up.

    Get behind the reds!!

    RE: Blood n guts.

I think before we get carried away it's worth pointing out that Wolves have only scored 6 goals all season and havn't scored more than 1 in a game. I think it's very unfair to suggest that the reason we kept a clean sheet was due to Reid's absence. I think Reid is an excellent captain, very consistent and a true professional. He captained us to promotion last season with one of the best defensive records in the league and for that he deserves a huge amount of credit. For me he should be one of the first names on the team sheet. After the commitment and loyalty he's shown to the club I think he deserves everyone's full support.
