People who refer to 'the plod' are, in general, thick as pig ****, hooligan loving racists.

    That is all.

Can only imagine that refers to our last match, plod = Rochdale? That makes as much sense as snow in Dubai

    That would be me then.

I don't use it as a derogatory statement as I am very pro the police, I just remember it as something from my childhood.

Plod has its roots in children's books and that is why many use it. As with most generalisations this one is completely wrong.

Really?? because in my opinion loads of people, from many backgrounds have different terms for the boys in blue, for whatever reason, loads of them are very reasonable people.

Didn`t the police themselves refer to beat bobbies as plod (plodding the streets).

They`ve been called allsorts over the years and once in a while an old name for em resurfaces and becomes fashionable once more. Cyclical like most things.

I'm friends with a few lawyers and they generally use the term plod. Maybe the first at Oxford is merely to demonstrate thickness.

Can't agree with that one. The plod seems like inoffensive slang for the police to me. It's from Noddy. Always thought of it as quite a friendly/jocular term - much more so than the filth or the pigs.

    I like Rozzers myself.
