Just thinking that if the cost of purchasing and installing a new scoreboard is out of the question at the moment, why not look at an alternative which could prove just as good. Purchase some 50" / 55" flatscreen TVs and place these within the stands at a regular distance, so you could have say 4 or 5 mounted up near speakers in roof in ponty along the stand. Big enough for most people to read and see the content. then just send whatever content to the TV such as match time, team lineups, live scores, video content, couple of adverts, sponsors etc. A fraction of the cost and not that hard to install..Especially with smart Tv's content could even be sent wirelessly.. Then make the system pay for itself for instance... Introduce the man of the match vote to text (standard rate plus 10p for instance).. Display results on screen etc.. Probably pay for itself over 1 season. 10,000% better than our current offering. Simples.
Yes *****, but use 4G and last season was perfect. It wouldn't be run on 3G though.. Club would utilise high speed broadband, could even tie it into a wifi offering to fans.
Why dont they buy one of them on the back of a truck, there are places where it could be positioned in the ground then use it at other events ie open day in the back carpark or town centre promotions etc. It could pay for it's self by renting it out. Just an idea.
The old letters like you used to have at grounds - get some bloke with a radio to change the scores as and when they go in - sorted
What about a huge drywipe board? Get Rolf Harris doing community service and writing the scores on there?
It's a sad indictment on a club that's spent more time in the English second tier than any other, that we are still debating the merits of a modern digital scoreboard. Kin ell.
To be honest the **** one everybody moans about is OK for me. Apart from Premier League teams, I can't think of anyone who has a top-notch scoreboard. Can't even remember seeing one at Swillsborough, Pikey Park or Bumhole Lane. Huddersfield's no better than ours either.
Why do we need a scoreboard? I can't see that advertising revenues would be enough to make it financially viable. I generally can remember the score whilst I am at the match unless I have had more than 7 pints. Like the stuff about man of the match and utilising technology - seems to make sense to me.
